Julie London had a slew of great album covers! Playboy Magazine-worthy, only with clothes on! I assume her hubby, Bobby Troup, who wrote "Route 66," gave her a few musical tips.

Gerry they were both on TV series Emergency

Hey Eric
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - you will not get an argument from me re Julie's LP sleeves! Bobby Troup also penned one of my top favorite songs: "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Woo:

Is this Atlantic Tunnel Ed?
  2:13pm
Gerry from Miami:

Yes, MOM WHIG, so they were! Was Julie considered a good actress or just another pretty face?

That Edward Rogers has a retro "throwback" sound. Thought I was listening to a 60s record.

@Woo - indeed it is Ed Rogers of Atlantic Tunnel!

  2:23pm
Gerry from Miami:

Many of Brian Wilson's songs make me melt away! Too bad we don't have Carl around to sing them. He was the most gifted vocalist in the Beach Boys, imo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Dennis Diken:

@Woo - indeed, I can hear that too! @Gerry from Miami - yeah, I miss Carl - and Dennis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Woo:

There's Tommy!
  2:27pm
Gerry from Miami:

Not to overlook that great cut from the Association. The glee club at my college alma mater sang a few Association tunes at their concerts. Some intricate choral arrangements there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm

@Woo - yeah, man! @Gerry from Miami - don't get me started about my The Association worship!

Gerry from Miami:

OK, Denny, who were the Revells?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Dennis Diken:

@poptone - hey! "Melody Hill" was the b-side of "Sugar, Sugar"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
LesleyK:

Thanks Stu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
LesleyK:

Dennis, I just checked my Archie's single and you are right. Wow I don't think I ever played the B side of that before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - The Revels were a Gary Usher studio concoction with the Wrecking Crew. I'd need to research who the singers were. named for Revell - the model car company!

@LesleyK - ALWAYS check the b-side!!
  2:40pm
poptone:

Den sure I always played the b-side of "sugar sugar" and may have even had that track from a cereal box cardboard single too. just was thrown off on the weird looking "colored" archies on that sleeve
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Dennis Diken:

@poptone - I think the images were redrawn for some foreign market on that particular sleeve
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm

holy moly, that O.V. Wright track so rules!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm
myron feld:

Nickel and a Nail is such a great song, and that graphic makes it that much greater!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm
Dennis Diken:

@myron feld - this is not untrue!
  3:02pm
Dudski:

Wonder if that was Al Jackson or Howard Grimes on drums on A Nickel And A Nail?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
Dennis Diken:

hey Dudski - good question - my money's on Grimes!
  3:05pm
Dudski:

Good ear. Just found it and it was Grimes. I know nothing about drumming but from all those Al Green records I associate Al Jackson with a little fuller sound. But the Hi records stuff is such a distinctive sound you know it is one or the other.
  3:07pm
Dudski:

O.V. Wright was great.
  3:08pm
Dudski:

Mick Jagger must of listened to a lot of Don Covay early on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Dennis Diken:

@Dudski - re Don C/Mick J - to be sure!
  3:11pm
Gerry from Miami:

DENNY, Jim Gordon was a drum icon, for sure!
  3:12pm

  3:13pm
Gerry from Miami:

Isn't this Cool Aid tune a Crusaders one as well? Different title, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - oh man, Jim Gordon was thee dude! too bad his life took such a bad turn. don't know re Crusaders?
  3:15pm
bradford:

i remember this advert from WOR-AM when I was a kid!
  3:15pm

The Crusaders number I'm thinking of was "Put It Where You Want It."

Illes were supposedly really big in their native Hungary, but this is my first time hearing them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - yeah, Illes made a lot of cool records!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Stu Rutherford:

@Dennis - re: Jim Gordon - A few years ago I came to the morbid realization that John Lennon's 'Imagine' LP sessions featured two future murderers and two future murder victims (both of whom were killed right outside their respective NYC apartments).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Dennis Diken:

@Stu - do tell?!
  3:40pm
Gerry from Miami:

My mom was a big fan of June Christy. I grew up knowing this song. Seductress pop!
.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
LesleyK:

I still can't believe that last time you "aired" this show, I walked into my local record shop the same week and found that Something Cool LP right as I walked in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Stu Rutherford:

@Dennis - Phil Spector & Jim Gordon: murderers. And Lennon & King Curtis were both killed outside their apartments. Curtis less than a year after his sessions with Lennon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - good stash to grow up with!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Dennis Diken:

@Stu - ah! news we can use - but I wish we didn't need to!
  3:43pm
Gerry from Miami:

Murry Wilson thought he was as talented as his offspring: Brian, Carl and Dennis. Visions of grandeur. The Boys had to fire him, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Stu Rutherford:

Agreed, Dennis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Dennis Diken:

@LesleyK - right, I remember you telling me that at the time! that indeed is "something cool"!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Andrew in Toronto:

Thanks for another great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - indeed, The Boys fired Murry. but in all actuality, he was not an untalented man tho not in the same league as his sons. and the band probably wouldn't have gotten off the ground without his push and dedication.
  3:48pm
Gerry from Miami:

Such fun today, DENNY! Had a ball listening and posting.
