my money before being given a table .. I of course refused
My lovely Simon (11 yesterday ) says "Daddy .. we have money but no one will ever try to rob us because of yer clothes.."

When I was teaching in NYC 1990-2015 - round about 1995, I was on the train and realized some young teens were goofing on me :
"look at his bag ...Check out his sandals ..
CBJ!!! CBJ.."
Had no idea what they were talking about so on the Monday I told my first period class the story and asked what does "CBJ " mean? And they fell out of their desks/chairs..
"YO Mista That means that yer clothes are so "broken" that they would have been cheap even in Jesus' time...

Oh, there was a duckling that waddled into our apartment building basement many years ago. We lived about half a mile from the park that had the Third River running through it where ducks, geese and other fowl hung out. I picked up the duckling and put it in shoe box. I called the local vet and they told me to release it in the park by the river. I hope that was the right thing to do.

We believe that a neighbor's kid was taking the ducklings home. I shudder to think of that.

But please don't forget about Paul Robeson:
Big Paul
He was the king of them all y'all
All-American at playing ball
But that wasn't all y'all
He was Phi Beta Kappa, Shakespearean rapper
Big Paul stood tall y'all
Yes he was born in the USA
But in his heyday they took his passport away
Why?
Because they didn't like what he had to say:
''Here I stand, an African American
Son of a slave from cradle to the grave.''
Are you now or have you ever been
aware of him?
Understood why they were scared of him?
This History?

From the book Love Goes to Buildings on Fire: Springsteen had always liked Suicide: he was especially impressed by the story-song “Frankie Teardrop.” When he was working on The River in ’79, he and Vega crossed paths up at 914 Studios in Blauvelt, where Springsteen had recorded so much of his early work. Vega and Marty Rev were finishing their second LP, which included “Dream Baby Dream.” Bruce and Vega talked about rock ’n’ roll, taking nips off Vega’s flask. “You know, if Elvis came back from the dead,” Springsteen said later, “I think he would sound like Alan Vega.”8
