AONB makes 'National park' such a boring moniker

The U.S. govt. has done such a number on me that I assumed it was some sort of military reserve. Area for Observation of Nuclear Blame or something.
Avatar 3:29pm

now there's an album title, Handy
Avatar 3:29pm
TDK60:

Handy, how goes it? When I visited England 4 years ago, I discovered there were several AONBs around the isle. I visited at least one.
Avatar 3:32pm
TDK60:

A quick search online found: "England, Wales and Northern Ireland has 46 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 18% of the countryside,"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Handy Haversack:

Hey, TDK60! Good to see you last week!

Going along over here. Planning on leaving your island for mine soon.

Hope you're getting by OK.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm

yes, much less eventful than the last mountaineering he and his friend did last month... the phrase, "we set out too late in the season..." was used. <cringe>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
chris in the redwoods:

full on mountaineering, Bas. climbing gear, ice axes/crampons as needed, etc. my mom knew this karma would catch up to me.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Bas NL:

Ouch. That sounds seriously unstoppable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
chris in the redwoods:

though he's doing things far more technical than i ever did, he still has the necessary reverence for the mountain and the constantly changing conditions one encounters upon it. for instance, the last trip, they didn't try to summit. they got close, but the snow and ice was too soft/melty. too dangerous, so they turned around. that awareness will keep a person alive. then, exhausted from a full day's climb, they encountered an injured hiker and had to run to car, drive to cell service to call search and rescue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
