Favoriting Discotech Underground with Kip Brown: Playlist from August 25, 2022 Favoriting

Discotech Underground's avatar View Discotech Underground's profile Favoriting

Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

Thank you so much, Kip and mom! Mom, dad went to get the anti-nausea meds. I don't know if I'll need them, but just in case. We couldn't get those yesterday because I went to CVS and the pharmacist was super cool because he said they were going to be $79 at there, but if we went to the HEB pharmacy they'd only be 9 or $12! So getting those today now
Avatar 🥁 5:31pm

That's great, mom! Now you'll start feeling better from those shots. When I got them in my hands before for my wrist thumb issues I've been dealing with the past couple of years, it took about a week for me to kick in

Kip, they are very cool looking. The first time I heard Sgt. Pepper was on a portable record player. A girl named Vicky played it on a friend's porch in the summer of 67. What a time it was.

When The Us Four sing "Alligator" it sounds a lot like The Grateful Dead in one of their best early jam tunes.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
Discotech Underground:

Van-By the way, that restaurant we stopped at in Nashville was excellent! "Alligator" is on the second Dead album, too. and it does make me wonder if they heard the single and copied it.

Actually, you were in Franklin, the most affluent community in the state. We got married there back in 1991 in a little old Episcopal church near the town square & Confederate monument. There was a very bloody battle there in Nov. 1864. Horses were quartered in the church.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm

Various but mostly grape.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
vanhooserd:

Anthem of the Sun is my favorite Dead album. I like to listen to various live versions of those tunes on the Internet Archives. "Caution: Do Not Stop On Tracks" is based on Them's "Mystic Eyes".
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
Discotech Underground:

Van-It's my favorite Dead album too...Side One is just amazing!
Avatar 🥁 5:55pm
MOM WHIG:

Kevin my friend here Woo sent me Tomatoes last week from Ill to me here in VA. I sent him Cookies.
Avatar 5:56pm

Fond memories of washing a fresh harvest, sprinkling some salt on a grape/cherry tomato, and being transported to a whole new dimension of flavor. Ah, to be young again!
Avatar 🥁 5:57pm
MOM WHIG:

Hyper I know the felling of that too. My Dad did a lot of gardening.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:57pm

Avatar 🥁 5:59pm

Kip we did the strawberry thing too - same result! Eat as you pick!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:59pm
vanhooserd:

My father, who grew up on a farm, made sure we had a huge garden in which I was forced to work on produce which we mostly gave away. It cured me of any desire to garden as an adult.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:00pm

Growing up in Michigan there were roadside farm markets every few miles! My dad would bring home quarts and quarts of strawberries, blueberries, peaches, tomatoes, sweet corn...!

Hello Kip and listeners! Been listening but also working. In other news, my garden sucks this year.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:01pm

Somebody has pointed out that the chords in this great Stooges song are similar to those in part of David Crosby's "Tribal Gathering" on 'The Notorious Byrd Brothers'.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
Discotech Underground:

Hey Midge!

To my ears "Tribal Gathering" sounded like a copy of Dave Brubeck "Take Five", especially considering the 5/4 time signature.
Avatar 🥁 6:03pm
MOM WHIG:

Hi there Midge
Kip I do the Farmer's Market these days - No yard here at my apartment.
Avatar 6:04pm
HyperDose:

@van But it sounds like you helped a lot of people who may have been food insecure. That is very commendable. :)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
vanhooserd:

I love how it alternates between the 5/4 & the "acid rock" guitar solos to the Stooge-like chords.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
Discotech Underground:

There is a farm market once a week in the part downtown. I have a brown thumb...I suck at gardening.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:05pm

That's my fig situation, Kip. FYI, traipsed across a few rivers last evening to see the Bar None Records concert in Hoboken. The Schramms, Yung Wu etc. Lots of FMU talent including Joe B, Toddophonic and MCed by Hoboken Jack Silbert. VERY NICE!

Except the Byrds is in E and the Stooges is in A but similar riff.
Avatar 6:07pm
