Good evening, Maestro.

Good evening back at you, stream master!! How is your Labor Day weekend?
  7:56pm
Andres:

Good eve, Nick. Sounded excellent from the kitchen and dinner table! Seems better to mellow into fall than wail about the end of summer as I like to do. :)
Avatar 7:58pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey Andres, thanks for checkin in! September and October are my favorite months as the sunshine mellows out. But summer still deserves a bittersweet sendoff.

greetings nick and electric people, lazy people, susans and others

Andres:

That Michael Urbaniak floored me! Somebody right now is ripping their hair out trying to get close to that classic sound: ;)
  8:04pm
Andres:

Hey, coel! Hope you’re feeling mellow, man.
Avatar 8:04pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey coel!! Echoing Andres' sentiments, stay a while..
Avatar 8:05pm
djnogoodnick:

Yeah, where are all the electric violinists making fusion jazz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
coelacanth∅:

hey Andres, yeah pretty mellow -cleaning, washing records, more cleaning...
  8:16pm
Andres:

It took me a while but I came around on Al Jarreau. So good!
Avatar 8:17pm
djnogoodnick:

Even I have my limits of "smooth" but early Al is ace..
  8:18pm
Gerry from Miami:

@djnogoodnick. I think most of those fusion jazz violinists discovered electronic keyboards and synthesizers that could produce far more different sounds more easily. Jean-Luc Ponty's records, for example, started to sound less "violinistic" as the years passed. I miss the Urbaniaks, Seiferts, Goodmans and others..The bow-on-string sound of a jazz violin has a certain texture that can't be matched by a keyboard. At least to my ears.
Avatar 8:20pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey Gerry, Welcome! And agreed, totally. The arp string ensemble has a certain "mathematical" vibration that I love from this period, but a lead violin virtuoso is a whole different feel. And I love early JLP!
  8:25pm
Gerry from Miami:

@djnogoodnick. Now that we have heard a couple of Bobby Humphrey flute tunes this evening, you got any early Patrice Rushen records before she started singing?
  8:31pm
Gerry from Miami:

More known as a pianist, Ms. Rushen wielded a pretty mean flute too!
Avatar 8:33pm
djnogoodnick:

@Gerry That she did! And in fact I have had a few of her tunes queued up to play in the right context (although I love her vocals also!). I will have to revisit. I will be playing earlier (soul jazz) releases as the fall progresses. Think they go well with the cool air.
  8:37pm
Gerry from Miami:

Right on, Mr. dj! Fit the music to the vibe AND the climate!
Avatar 8:38pm
djnogoodnick:

I am glad it works for you? But does the air ever really get cool in Miami?
Avatar 8:40pm
djnogoodnick:

Sorry, meant to type "I'm glad it works for you!"
  8:42pm
Gerry from Miami:

Yeah, we have some cooler days, but not at this time of year. We are still in hurricane season. Nice to hear Roy Ayers "vibin'" it with Buster Williams!
Avatar 8:45pm
djnogoodnick:

Yes! This set is an excuse to play Roy Ayers and the Mizell Bros under various guises. Crossing my fingers for South Florida in hurricane season. I love the Miami culture and ecology in spite of its political problems.

@andres Thanks--at the very last minute I opted for this over Stevie Wonder's "Summer Soft" because that's a bit of a downer.
