Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from September 9, 2022 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

...MFSL busted for issuing *many* ! In fact that was pretty much their whole PR - 'no Digital steps'. This is not to say they aren't super conscientious about Mastering for excellence from proprietary sources. It's also a step that's pretty common standard practice. But that's one big phat glaring omission. That's my understanding... The first thing in Mastering is not Compressing the whole Album based on only the loudest moment - & flattening everything else out. That would drive Hendrix for example around the bend...
Avatar 🛒 Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
doctorjazz:

@Gerry from Miami, yeah, it was a big controversy in the Audiophile world (which comprises of about 15 people...). One step did use very high resolution digital files (DSD), which likely doesn't degrade the sound to an audible degree, but it's the lie they used to promote their expensive LP's as being "All Analog" that has them in an uproar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm

The best arrangement of musicians on record are the first two McGarrigle Sisters records. You have a combination of Canadian, American and British musicians that are from the McGarrigle's hometown, the Wrecking Crew, the 1970s Singer Songwriter crowd and Fairport Convention and their contemporaries.
  12:27pm
Dean:

@doctorjazz and I have discussed the MF "house sound." I once heard a beat-up early pressing of Yes's Close to the Edge followed by a MF remaster, both on a top-notch system. The MF had that smooth, transparent reproduction of detail, but frankly we all thought the beat-up oldie was more fun.

The (urm...) Masters of Mastering knew what Medium they had @ hand & how we'd be listening. Digital has ...or had? ...seduced us with Hearing More ...but the Art of it has been - say - long in catching up. Also things mixed & mastered now for Spotify & earbuds or who even knows anymore...
