Saw one review exalting 'Rings of Power' - another noting it's the most expensive TV show ever (!) - & another review saying it deviates from Tolkien too much & it's awful. & Trevor Noah making fun of people who couldn't handle a couple characters of color. Me - I *read* Tolkien... I mean years later they show it for free to poor people I'll try it for nuthin' maybe...

Well - Tolkien was quite specific about all the features & the history of Middle-earth - including the varies species & races. The original Virtual Reality - some even say. There were people of color South of where most of his action took place - namely, *very* ancient North Europe. But indeed - a fictional one. There's Marvel Comics - & the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tolkien was born in South Africa (to English parents), interestingly... So there's all this to consider. The convention of current network media I suppose is to be more representative & diverse - as a token, or otherwise... J.R.R. Token, perhaps... I'm into fiction & fantasy - & Tolkien is not something most of us think needs reinterpreting. Myself - if something is entertaining enuff - or worth it somehow - I'll forgive a lot. But I understand not wanting canonical Middle-earth effed with. Whether a few (& it's noted - that's all it is!) characters of some kind being Of Color could fit with what Tolkien put down - I'm far from the obsessive who can be the final word on that... This issue aside - they've already deviated too much from the books for my liking in the films - tho I've enjoyed them well enuff for the attention I've given them...
