Just 2 tapes? And neither is a compilation? We place our audio receivers in your care.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42am
WR:

The same Kirchenkampf?

kirchenkampf.bandcamp.com

"'kirchenkampf' is John Gore. I have been making electronic music since 1986. There were six cassettes previous to the first CD and the start of my label Cohort Records which are available for free download here."

Tony Coulter:

Hey, WR! Yep, together those two tapes take up more than two-and-a-half hours, so there's no time for a third tape. And yes, it is the same Kirchenkampf -- we'll be hearing his first release, from '86. I'm guessing they all have unique covers, as mine is very handmade -- it's just some kind of pasty, concrete-like stuff layered onto the cassette shell. The "cover" shown on discogs (www.discogs.com... ) is actually just a paper insert. Thanks for the link to his bandcamp page!

Had to look Kaercher up: "Alfred Kärcher SE & Co. KG is a German family-owned company that operates worldwide and is known for its high-pressure cleaners, floor care equipment, parts cleaning systems, wash water treatment, military decontamination equipment and window vacuum cleaners."

"Military decontamination equipment" ... that fits.
  12:48pm
Martyn:

Oh wow looks like the track COC talk Newcastle may be referring to a Caspar performance at Earshot festival 1990 Newcastle Arts Centre which is literally just on the other side of the river from where I live. Apparently Zoviet France, Etant Donnes, Nocturnal Emissions and Test Dept. also played. I would've been way too young to attend at the time but I did get to see Zoviet France a decade later (first gig I ever went to in fact)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm

I wonder, David, how one gets a name on the "Named Hurricane" list?
Hurricane Fiona could be, you know...
Avatar 12:50pm

@ Martyn: You're probably right! That track was recorded live in 1990.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm

I've got a Kaercher pressure washer. Do the garden patio tiles with it. Enormous fun it is. And bright yellow.

Sem, that's catchy!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
David (in London):

And back to the start of the chat, Zoviet France were also known for their releases in usual and aggressive packaging. I've still got some of them, roofing shingles, aluminium, porcelain and so on.

The top four songs of 1991:

Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1991
No. Title Artist(s)
1 "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" Bryan Adams
2 "I Wanna Sex You Up" Color Me Badd
3 "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" C+C Music Factory
4 "Rush Rush" Paula Abdul

And then there was C.O. Caspar....

I can hear the Bryan Adams. Cheesy ballad.
  1:12pm

I don’t know about in the US, but that Bryan Adams track was number one here till about 2003. Or at least it felt that way.

Really enjoyed that CO Caspar.

Hey, Dean! I think I may even have heard the C+C Music Factory track at a wedding I went to a couple of months ago.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
WR:

I'm glad to say that none of those 4 hot 100 titles triggers any sounds other than vague memory of the sound of the recordings of Abdul and C+C Music Factory made.

LOL Yvang re-the story line of those titles.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Mxter Baba:

I think I stopped watching MTV when I went off to college in 1988 and from then on it was mostly local and college radio… and then in around 1993 someone sent me a cassette of a WFMU program!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Yvang:

Cassettes of old WFMU programs (pre archives) could be good material for Tape Hiss.
Avatar 1:51pm
Tony Coulter:

I used to have tons of aircheck cassettes of my pre-archive shows. At Ken Freedman's request I gave them all to WFMU when I moved west. No doubt they are sitting in some subterranean vault right now. I do have tapes of non-FMU radio shows (other people's shows, I mean) from the '80s and early '90s, tho. I may well play some on Tape Hiss.
  1:52pm
Martyn:

Yeah, I'd love to hear the first ever TC show on WFMU
Avatar 1:57pm
Tony Coulter:

That was way back in 1990. No longer have a tape of it, but here's the playlist (sans archive) of a show from 1997: www.wfmu.org...

Not sure my tastes have changed all that much since then.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

Hi ARB.

Tony, just looked at your rateyourmusic.com profile. You have over 24,000 releases listed. How complete is that? I did a query for Kirchenkampf and see that you have this tape listed.
Avatar 2:19pm
Tony Coulter:

@ WR: Uh oh, I've been exposed for the compulsive maniac/hoarder I am. I'd guess that list is around 85–90 percent complete. I've got things that aren't on Rate Your Music, or that I never got around to listing.
  2:26pm
David in London:

We wouldn’t have you any other way Tony.

PS I may have formatted that 1997 playlist. Having accessible playlists was a thing back then! Music From The Hearts Of Space and New Sounds were always broadcasting a mailing addresses to send a SASE to to get the playlist for show #143 or whatever.
Avatar 2:35pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Martyn: Don't listen to more than an hour or two of music a day. I work at home, but can't concentrate with music on, unfortunately. So, obviously, I've got a lot of catching up to do.

WR:

I have only a small selection of my collection on RYM, though even if all were added it would be only several thousand. My vinyl is about 40% "classical" and I am still waiting for RYM to have reasonable and satisfying way of list them, though I've not reviewed that in a few years. Regarding releases not on RYM, of course anyone can add releases but that is pretty time consuming. Big respect to those who have done the heavy listing to create the listings.
