Unpopular opinion: I like it better than Umbrellas Of Cherbourg

I *love* A WOMAN IS A WOMAN and wish that even a fraction of the folks who have seen BREATHLESS would check it out.

I feel that way about Vivre Sa Vie as well
  8:36pm
ron-ji:

There are SO many great (or at the very least fascinatingly infuriating) ones, all the way up to the end. It’s hard to resist a 20 page annotated list. Shocker: BREATHLESS doesn’t even make my Top 10!

I saw some people on twitter list Belmondo/Seberg in that as one of the great romantic couples...she snitches him out!
  8:38pm
ron-ji:

And Godard’s use of not only music but EVERY POSSIBLE FORM OF SOUND/AUDIO just got even richer, more personal, and more “experimental” the older he got.

So many people from so many diverse fields & pursuits making testimonials to how important - even fundamental Godard was for them.

I am still getting over this afternoon’s phenomenal Pharaoh Sanders tribute, and now this! I don’t know much more my heart can take in one day.

Vivre Sa Vie also borrows some from one of other favorite movies Pandora's Box...and the jukebox scene is my favorite dance sequences, probably in anything

I have not seen either one in decades, but I remember both EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF and PASSION having really great scores. And EVERY MAN as a movie is way up at the top of my list oh oh oh —- almost forgot the Stones doc!

This combination of Documentary & Impressionism ...is that *still* ahead of its time ?

Thank you Devon.

RevRab, I feel like there will always be elements of Godard’s work that will be ahead of any time, or completely outside it. Almost no one has followed up his Dziga-Vertov phase in the late 60s & early 70s when he was making films as part of a collective for intentionally tiny audiences , for starters.

Yes yes THANKS for this hour—as you can see I am a big fan, and have been too Coviddy to properly mark the great man’s passing until tonight. And the music is SUCH a great place to start.
