Strange to think that, apparently at one point in his life, Billy Joel could actually rock out. Naturally, he disowns his early stuff.

wasn't John Kay still in Steppenwolf when he released that?

yeah that's a compilation that came out during Steppenwolf, the Sparrow stuff pre-dates that but I couldn't find a match for that particular song

CA Pop not all from CA - love that.
Robm - I would say that's a blanket statement. :) The Fabs were pretty good with arrangement & performance & recording & a few things.
However - more impressed with SandieShaw there than I'd'a guessed.
  10:31pm
Robm:

@Scobot glad i am not the only one who feels that way
Avatar 10:33pm
Mr Fab:

I liked that Sandie Shaw, def an improvement over the orig, but frankly "Love Me Do" is a pretty slight item in the Beatles catalogue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...tho also - impressed with 'Love Me Do' from 1962 done up 1969 swinger stylee there. A good Cover may shine light on a composition from some dif angle. That was TheBeatles first single after all - still getting up to speed. Almost exactly 60 years ago now.
  10:35pm
Robm:

Thanks RRN63
@Mr.Fab i think it is just because i am so sick and tired od hearing the beatles

Robm: my homie from KXLU, Senor Amor, also says every time he plays a Beatles cover, "always better than the original!"

I’ve probably listened to Space Ritual just as much as I’ve listened to Sgt. Pepper — probably about 100,000 times each. That’s a lot of Psilocybin over the years.

@RRN63 i prefer the Beatles solo stuff, a lot better IMOH

I totally get it Robm. thanks to my hippie big sister, i listened to tons of Beatles/solo Bealtles growing up. They were my fave band. But by the time I was 15, I was pretty much done. I still love 'em, but burn-out is a real thing.

FunGuy def. They say fungi have more in common with us genetically than they do with plants. Now that's something to grapple with...
KINKS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Mike Sin:

I look at this way. The Beatles transcend music — they are surely overplayed and in the veins of culture.

But look at it like this, if “Good Morning, Good Morning” was cut by an unknown band and it languished on a reel of tape for 50 years, and then it was placed on a comp, and then started getting airplay on WFMU, we all be losing our minds.

Village Green released same day as White Album. It's perfect. Don't know why it's not fawned over like PetSounds, ForeverChanges & Odessey & Oracle. It's one of those.
  10:57pm
Robm:

@Mike sin amen to that, between this station and a couple of others, my musical tastes have changed, no more commercial music radio for me with its SSDD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...maybe VillageGreen is not as sonically rich & adventurous as the others. Maybe it's more sober already by late '68. It's like ZiggyStardust - a concept & narrative in the widest & most free sense. Ray Writes nothing disposable there...

Sometimes, Cale reminds me of a hybrid of Nilsson and Paul Williams. Honestly, I love that.

On behalf of the USA - our regrets Sir Elton.
Hemmings all I'm on the Modal Chant.
Ah the BYrdS. Hillman the original Bassist that's right. Also a Writer. Went on to Flying Burrito Brothers.

It's like seeing McGuinn solo was amazing. But c'mon Roger - you know who's high harmonies we wanna hear with that... Otoh - Crosby admits sadly that all the people he used to make music with won't talk to him. Crosby has been the Boomer Rawkstar Autobiography to ELEVEN. Maybe 12.
