I met Joe Bussard over a decade ago at a WFMU record fair — at a showing of Desperate Man Blues. Got his phone number, and then drove down to Fredrick, Maryland to sit in his basement and listen to music... look at his artifacts... purchase a couple cassette tapes from his collection... and buy him lunch at the Barbara Fritchie diner.

He showed me his most valuable 78, the Black Patti, the tie that Hank Williams was wearing when he died (with blood stains) and a bunch of Edison 78s.

Dude did not have nice things to say about Obama. So when Fahey mentions how Bussard wanted him to pretend to be a black blues man, that hits pretty close to my experience with old Joe.
