The darkness is related to, an effect of, the weariness and wariness to speak politically. At some sensible level, we are nihilists. To my mind, that's okay. But we do need to proclaim our rationales, our reasons for subscribing to nihilism or what have you.

Years ago(early '80's?) I walked into Poobah Records in Pasadena. I did what I have rarely done in my life - I asked the clerk what's new and good. He been the apotheosis of cool directed me to a record on the wall titled Furious Pig with a picture of a gaping mouth. He rarely showed enthusiasm for anything. But this he rolled his eyes in ecstacy. I bought it no questions asked. When I put it on the record player at home. I was puzzled and irritated, but ultimately started laughing. I came to love it for it's bold disregard of any known language and strict precision. Most people I played it for told me to take it off. Jaap Blonk was able to reactivate those memories from so long ago.

Sputtering, muttering, illogical, insane people in from of the 7-11 is now a perminent condition. Language is such a mutable form of communication. Everyday I'm in a situation where my intention is derailed as soon as it comes out of my mouth. There for I keep my mouth full of saltine crackers when I'm away from home.
