Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 14, 2022 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

The entertainment world just lost one of the biggest talents ever this week with Angela Lansbury, she could act and sing in comedy and drama all flawlessly. With her passing, there is only one actor nominated for an Oscar in the 1940s still alive and that is Ann Blyth who was up against Lansbury when she did Mildred Pierce as the daughter from hell Veda.

At least in L.A. Love's version of My Little Red Book was huge. The story goes that when Burt heard it he was kind of mad for them fucking around with the chord changes. Johnny Echols, the lead guitarist in Love said, rather diplomatically "Yeah, because we did that song, Burt got a new swimming pool."
Avatar 12:34pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Some will know that PinkFloyd's 'Interstellar Overdrive' resulted from their manager (I think) trying to tell them about 'Little Red Book' second-hand. Not quite the right chords. :D
Bacharach reportedly called Love's version 'neurotic' - but it's about that anyway seems to me.

Listened to DJ Tom Clay when he had a gig on LA radio in the 70s. I can remember when he would play a brand new album in its entirety on the air with only a break after Side One. He would alert listeners in advance to get their tape recorders all set. I remember getting a perfect dub of Neil Young's "Harvest" on the day it was released. I don't think the record companies liked this practice very much. I think Mr. Clay had a few run-ins with station management as well. Quite a polarizing fellow. But this record is great.
