Looking over the tunes, and I thinking about how many of them are 1965 and later and how I don't remember hearing anything like them on radio '65 to 70 in Houston or Dallas. By 1970 I had given up on radio as being a source of music that I was wanting to hear.

Yes, that's why I noted I was living/listening in Texas. BB King, Bobby Bland, James Brown, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Otis Redding, Aretha, Ray Charles and the Motown artists; I heard but so much never got out to the mainstream audiences. You stated top 40, and the urban stations were generally similarly limited in playlist by the late 60s.
