ROCK me to the core! Here in Nebraska, we had a great rocker like Robert called Charlie Burton who would lay on the floor in the crowd doing this stuff. I got to a roadie for him once when he did a fundraiser of KZUM. Talk about a cool fun rocker!

Nice, Mike! I saw him in the '90's, too, at the Satellite Lounge in Houston. His wife was standing on the side of the stage the whole show. I think he introduced her once

Joe, a bit of both! Nebraska 70's and later in Austin and now I think he's maybe back here again. I was in shock when he told me when he did our show that he liked hearing Eddie Holland's "Leaving Here" on my show that week. WOW! Talk about excitement!
Avatar 2:32pm

@candy-o - I recall link's wife coming onstage several times and brushing out his ponytail ... during a song!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm

@Joe B -- did you see Link Wray at Maxwell's sometime in the late 90s? IIRC, he opened with Rumble, which I thought was a bit weird. I think I have that right.
Avatar 2:36pm
Hackensack Slim:

Nice RG tribute, Joe. I've heard that Link's wife was a little, shall we say, eccentric.

I saw Link a couple times there. Yes, late 90s with the forty-fives opening!
Avatar 2:38pm
Joe B:

hey hackensack slim!
  2:38pm
Christina Ginger:

The first time I saw him, she was playing bass for him *and* maintaining his hair, Joe. He had just gotten over a surgery and being quite sick (circa 2002?). The second time, a year and a half later or so…. She just was playing with him. Our neighbour across the street played bass for him a little bit in the 80’s, too.
Avatar 2:38pm
Joe B:

wow never saw her playing in the band. sounds like the pretty things, when their manager would jump in on drums after firing the drummer!
Avatar 2:39pm

many favorite Link shows - at Tramps with Los Straitjackets when he opened with Rumble ... closed with Rumble ... then encored with ... yes, Rumble!

Hi there Hackensack Slim
  2:45pm
Christina Ginger:

From Varoety in 2014, ‘'Bruce used to hang out at my fourth-floor walk-up when I broke up with my wife,' Gordon recalled to Amorosi. 'We became close friends. If the Pointer Sisters hadn’t come along with their version of Fire, we could’ve had something there.'’
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Mike Sin:

I guess you always associate an artist's age with when they come to prominence musically... so it's a bit hard to believe that Robert Gordon was actually older than Bruce Springsteen.
Avatar 2:48pm
Joe B:

great point
Avatar 2:49pm
Joe B:

I wonder what would have happened if Bruce put out his version in 1978. I was annoyed when they finally released it on The Promise, it had a redone 2010 vocal over the 1978 track

Hi Mom, Medson, all. A Jersey band that I knew of, Ronnie and the Jitters, claimed that Robert Gordon copped their version of Black Slacks after hearing them do it. Debatable.
