Hair, hair, hair!. The person I live with does hair, and wigs, and makeup sometimes for TV shows and commercials mostly, although she did work on a film recently, but the important point is that all I get is hair, hair, hair, all the livelong day. Hair conversations, attempts to be hair-understanding and sympathetic, hair in the mornin' hair in the evenin' hair at suppertime...

THIS TRACK!
Avatar 4:45pm
desert fox:

I'm partial to The Cowsills b/c of their rise to fame and tragic end...but this is a GREAT version of Hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
StringOFperils:

THIS was one of my fave records on the radio when it came out, but a guilty pleasure for some reason...undue pre-teen pressure-on-self....fear of associating with revolution-ack-my parents might find out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
coelacanth∅:

i was already begging my parents to let me grow my hair long when this came out, and it was getting a little longer each school year. the whole family liked the song and it didn't help whatever feeble argument my parents had against mine & my brother's desire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

@desert fox: I couldn't agree more! The Cowsills' version, despite the group's (ironically) clean-cut image, is to me the definitive version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
coelacanth∅:

(^"hair" that is)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
StringOFperils:

Something about The Cowsills' HAIR has a real undercurrent of 'badass', like a contemporary Paul Revere & the Raiders kind of edge (which stands in stark contrast to their image, just as Gaylord said)
Avatar 4:52pm
LadyChanticleer:

Good Morning Starshine is my favorite song of all time
Avatar 4:52pm
LadyChanticleer:

Every version
Avatar 4:52pm
desert fox:

Gaylord it is the square versions that I find the most psychedelic....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Gaylord Fields:

@SOp: They were so much hipper than their label-mandated mild-drinking (and shilling) image. Also, I saw the Cowsills perform it ca. 1990, and I still count it as perhaps my favorite performance I've ever witnessed on a live stage. That is not an exaggeration or hyperbole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Gaylord Fields:

*milk-drinking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
coelacanth∅:

when my father brought home the hair album (much to my mother's objection) i didn't like the "do do do do do -etc.) that had been replaced by "i never have to cut it cuz it stops by itself"; but i grew to like the original better than the cowsills' version
but i Love both
Avatar 4:55pm
LadyChanticleer:

This one is psychedelic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
StringOFperils:

@Gaylord > I believe it! The Cowsill family were born to it. A gift for everyone. Wish it hadn't cost them so much.
Avatar 4:56pm
LadyChanticleer:

I though this was Tuesday Weld on the cover
Avatar 4:57pm
desert fox:

helllllllo Japan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Gaylord Fields:

@SOp: The Cowsills' "Family Band" documentary is a tragedy in three acts. It's also a must-watch, for those who haven't done so here.

Avatar 4:59pm
desert fox:

Avatar 5:02pm
LadyChanticleer:

So many random women on these album covers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
coelacanth∅:

i loved "donna" when i was little. had no idea what a virgin is though, and thanks to my older brother -3 years older and precocious, we sang "16-year old urchin"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
StringOFperils:

I've seen some of that Cowsills doc. Surprisingly personal and so interesting to get behind all these different, and contradictory, vantage points on what happened. Psychiatric field day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
Gaylord Fields:

Last Cowsills mention, I swear (till the next one): Live, they sing the "like Jesus wore it" verse that the label forced them to take out for the hit recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
StringOFperils:

We'll go away from the topic with that touchstone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm

DJLC: My partner was dancing and singing to Hair covers, and i tried to politely tell her that if she kept doing so I was going to respectfully turn the volume way up.

The Axe will get a show. In many ways, Axe is the origins of Ritual Music.

Hi there, No Good Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm

@Lady C: Oh, I can tell by the chemistry you too have.

desert fox:

djnogoodnick show came about b/c Lady C and her mom were listening to hair soundtrack last week and crying... then she texted me at 2am asking if I wanted to do a Hair show this week. And I was like, fo sho.
Avatar 6:40pm
djnogoodnick:

Yes indeed! I'd say my program originates with George Duke but Axe is definitely around there too. Good evening Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Nick: Looking forward to the Axe attack!
Avatar 6:41pm
djnogoodnick:

@desert fox That's as good a reason as any to put together a theme show
  6:42pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm

I could afford to be David Axelrod schooled. Where do I sign?
Avatar 6:46pm
LadyChanticleer:

Does the crowd want Axe? I sure can bring it. Probably just an hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Gaylord Fields:

@SOp: Any and all of Axe's solo albums, Electric Prunes' "Mass in F Minor," Lou Rawls, Letta Mbulu, and last and best, David McCallum's "The Edge" — a perfect piece of music.

Avatar 6:48pm
desert fox:

I'm an axe man...
  6:50pm

Axe throwing as a sport is maybe a bad idea but as a radio show a great one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

I love Axe so much I even use his brand of body wash. (Wait what, it's not…)
Avatar 6:51pm
LadyChanticleer:

The Electric Prunes were my gateway into Axe
Avatar 6:52pm
LadyChanticleer:

The Axe was a looker too. I read a quite by him once where he says "back in the 60s, I was hot. I'm still hot. When you're hot, you're hot for life"
