	3:41pm Mr Fab: Beats + early '60s surfers = late '60s hippies. Surfers were renegades, "dropping out" to go on safari. Like their fellow Californians the bikers, they weren't originally political. But spending all day by the ocean got them in touch with nature, leading to the environmental movement. And it was probably the Beats that nudged them towards a more political way of thinking. (in my estimation...)

	3:41pm Mr Fab: Beats + early '60s surfers = late '60s hippies. Surfers were renegades, "dropping out" to go on safari. Like their fellow Californians the bikers, they weren't originally political. But spending all day by the ocean got them in touch with nature, leading to the environmental movement. And it was probably the Beats that nudged them towards a more political way of thinking. (in my estimation...)
