Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
Rich in Washington:

@TDK60: Totally. Not saying they were completely inspired by. I think they all had their ears to the same ground. More to the point, I think Beatlecentric Yoko haters would also hate most Krautrock and most edgy music of the time.

I think I have the second edition, full title is "International Discography of the New Wave - Volume 1982|1983". Both impLOG and Cosmos records from this set are in the book! (Just checked.)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
WR:

Yes, TDK60, I was being a bit silly. Folks need to remember that Yoko Ono studied with John Cage in the 50s and did loft event / shows in 60 and 61 with La Monte Young and that ilk.

Moving on, is Diledadafish editable or edible?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
JtotheK:

Procured a used copy of the book a number of years ago from online bookseller. In the hopes that when out and about at area record stores I'd be able to better search for new wave 45s late 70s-83. But as mentioned - was overwhelming, didn't really pan out as intended. But it's great as a reference guide!

Hi Rich in Washington. I was a Beatle fan who liked Y.O., also knew that the Fab 4 had done some of their own relative edginess too. (Walrus, etc.) From the start, I staunchly opposed those who seemed to oppose Yoko for racist reasons or for closeminded reasons due to her being more Out. // I'm sick at home with the COVID Virus. 3rd day. I wonder if there is any correlation to those who dislike cilantro and the singing of yoko ono? I like then both.

Oh! thank you thank you for playing this Ives. Have been reading a bit about Ives recently but haven't yet pulled out recordings to go with the reading.
  2:17pm
Dean:

I love cilantro.

Fanfare's James H. North in 1998 on this Ives recording: "These are clean, vibrant performances of the two Ives orchestral sets; they reveal detail superbly while maintaining vivid ambience. The public tunes included in many of Ives's scores have seldom come through so clearly; it has been a common critical presumption that we weren't meant to hear them all, that some were meant to be absorbed subliminally. This disc argues otherwise. Remembering how performances of Schoenberg's music improved steadily over many decades, one is tempted to think the same is happening for Ives, whose performing traditions are younger. In any case, Dohnányi and his great orchestra do a splendid job; the chorus is unusually reticent in the Te Deum excerpt that opens the finale of Set No. 2. London's recorded sound is excellent, although Severance Hall's dry acoustic (or Dohnányi's interpretation) does not allow the touch of sweetness I would like."
  2:19pm
Dean:

I love Yoko Ono, too. So, yes, there might be a correlation, and I'll go further. My admiration for cilantro caused my love for Yoko.

@WR - re: reference materials - when I mentioned soul/funk 45s - I was referring to the book 'Essential Northern Soul Price Guide' by Tim Brown and Martin Koppel. I more or less disregard the pricing since the book is years old and what's "in demand" changes yearly, but it's useful - especially since label is included.

Then for funk, I have 'The Funky & Groovy Music Records Lexicon' compiled by Peter Wermelinger (Switzerland). This one I don't think is in print anymore. It's great, because it has LPs/12"/7" categories and a ton of images of each. Had this book for a number of years, but realized it's unlikely I'll come across the vast majority of the records. Thankfully WFMU is around, a number of dj's spin this stuff.

Dang, what'd that poor tympani ever do to Peter Thomas!
Avatar 2:39pm
TDK60:

Wow, wonder if that's a tympani or a bass drum tuned loose.

i think Swifty is trying to break out of the mould, but i doubt she has any foundation for anything creative.
i hope i'm wrong.

@JtotheK, thanks for the info. The New Wave volumes are available on archive.org for limited viewing, which is OK with me, just having it there to look something up when needed. Will look to see if the funk and soul books have been digitized as well.
