Climate dependent production of acorns. We have several red oak trees here. Some years very few acorns, some years you have to wear a hardhat when out on the deck because you get bombarded with them & man it hurts when hit.

One year I brought 12 five gallon pail fulls to my Mom's house to feed her deer and still had plenty left over

Animal hoarding is a mental illness. And the actual number of animals doesn't make it hoarding, it's the lack of proper care, such as overcrowding.

The animal rescue league here in Des Moines are always busting somebody that feels they need to have 75 cats and dogs within a very small space. It's disgusting and very sad!

We lost our Callipygian two weeks ago. It's weird how a small apartment with four pets can still feel emptier than it did. She was twenty, and it was time, but still. Hard. And sad. She was from the neighborhood. We'd pulled her out of the back yard at six weeks old because she was on death's door. They didn't think she'd make it, and then she made it twenty years.

So, with you bad animals as witnesses, just wanted to say thank you, Callipygian. We shall miss you. You were family.
