the speakers in the studio are set to almost maximum blastage, i recommend similar settings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm

nope, a band whose reunion tours were much much better!

Roger that, Jesse!

Thanks for the Clean and Hamish music, Jesse.

love love thank you

Nice song tribute, Jesse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
tim from washington:

When my daughter was in preschool she had a friend who's dad was from NZ. One time I started talking to him about the Clean without any context because I assumed the Clean were a household name in NZ like the Beatles. He gave me a confused look and said “No, never heard of them, mate.” Hahaha

Thanks rev rabbit for posting brian turner’s words about hamish…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
dj jj.:

yeah, i spoke with somebody earlier this year who was a hippie music head in christchurch just before the clean were coming up, and he hadn't heard of them, which also surprised me. he has now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
dj jj.:

yes, thanks much rev.

Wow these bands are amazing, wish I had heard of them earlier (Not surprised in my case, I lived in a musical hole in the ground until I bought my first stereo at age 22)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
tim from washington:

One by one we're making the Clean huge in NZ, Jesse!

This Sweat Dreams is pretty incredible for just two people. There sounds like for things going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
dj jj.:

i'm no 1st generation clean fan! i came in at least 25 years late (though tried to make up for lost time)

I would like to see a WFMU show called “Not Dead Yet” that is just tribute shows for people who are still alive so ignorant fools like myself can catch up (See also recently Pharaoh Sanders)
Chris H:

I hadn’t heard of The Clean until I got really into Yo La Tengo in the late 90s
Avatar 9:42pm

"What did you hear on the Frow Show last night, son?"
"Dead Air on the Radio."
"... um, didn't they play any music?"
"Oh, very much so."
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:43pm

I listen to a ton of music. Albeit my knowledge is maybe 5% of avg fmu dj, but still. I had heard of The Clean, never knew a song. Never heard of The Mad Scene. Glad to be getting schooled. Sad this happens after folks pass, but, beauty of being an artist is that you leave a legacy. May be smallish, but we’re experiencing it now. Thanks JJ.

This is wonderful stuff. I really appreciated the article about Hamish you shared on Twitter recently, Jesse.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:47pm

I do a lot of obituary discoveries. Makes me feel like a fool sometimes.
Avatar 9:48pm

*sees the date of the Earwax gig* "where were you, ngh!, where were you!!!" ....sigh....

I think all of my Flying Nun knowledge came from Yo La Tengo, Superchunk and Barbara Manning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm

I'm with wearpants's "not dead yet" idea.

Aloha DJ JJ and good evening ppls

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm

I’ve been Glistening to WFMU since 6am sharp
Avatar 10:15pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm

where might one find that 19 Nov 1981 rumba bar show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
dj jj.:

that's a pretty fantastic name/concept for a specialty show here, though the page of upcoming special programming often includes a subset of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
dj jj.:

and of course there's the bob dylan death DAT that ken & andy recorded live on the air in 1997, waiting to be played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
dj jj.:

why yes, you can get it here: bit.ly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm

many thanks dj jj!!!
Avatar 10:19pm

Wow, DJ JJ, being able to hear the Dylan death DAT ahead of time is the WFMU equivalent of having a CD burn of "Once Upon A Time In Shaolin"
Avatar 10:20pm

greetings, Jesse! Frowskateers!
been listening, just getting to sign in now
not real familiar with The Clean (somehow The Mad Scene is more prominent in my brain -- ??) -- finally had a chance to read up on the awful news -- thank you so much for this tribute, Jesse
Avatar 10:20pm

oh, that isn't what's available at the link you posted...oops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
dj jj.:

no, the bob dylan DAT is under literal lock & key with only a wrench to break the glass when its sad time comes.
Avatar 10:24pm

@RRN63 -- yes, thank you for sharing Brain Turner's beautiful
Avatar 10:26pm

Just a reminder, if you happen to spot the Dylan in the street (or subway, or elevator) you don't need to tell him how much he means to you, it's almost certainly not going to make him happy. www.utne.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm

Go with the ....... I mean get down with the Frow ; )

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm

Thanks Karl. ????????????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Franco Twinkie:

However, if you see Bob Dylan struggling with a flat tire on the side of the road....never mind, keep driving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Rob (Jerzcity):

Or if you happen to find him wandering through a backyard in Long Branch in the rain at night, don't arrest him. It's just Bob Dylan looking at houses
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

Re: Dylan death DAT: DATs die through bitrot. None of my DATs from the nineties play anymore. Almost all my old CDRs still play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

Moral: always back up the stuff on your DATs to at least one other format, before you can't anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

@Franco: yea, that could actually get u both killed- never stop on a busy road to change a tire.

@Ironybread @10:26: that writer is more afraid than Bob
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
dj jj.:

boy would the yolks be on ken & andy's faces then!
Avatar 10:46pm

that Klara Lewis piece is beautiful

This Ernest Hood is beauty. Thanks and good evening jj. ❤️

So the wfmu pot of gold might be empty? DAT's it folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Franco Twinkie:

Slug, what would you do if Bob Dylan sidled up to at a lunch counter and asked you if he could share your soup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm

@Franco: sorry Bob. Call AAA and get back in yer car www.nhregister.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Karl Ward:

One time I was at the station when the big excitement of the day was that Ken was going to open the vault and attempt to play the DAT just to confirm that it worked, and then maybe make a copy of it if it worked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
dj jj.:

i do kinda recall hearing that they made a backup at some point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Karl Ward:

I would give Bob Dylan my soup, on the condition that we talk only about American poets from the mid-twentieth century. No mid-century American poets, no soup.
Avatar 10:53pm

@Franco -- hah! would probably say sure!
(although it most likely would be the vegan mac & cheese with broccoli & fake bacon at Champs Diner in Brooklyn -- where i always eat at the counter)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

Karl, my guess is Bob would move to the end of the counter and pretend you never met.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Karl Ward:

No, we would have a Millay sonnet-off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Karl Ward:

Everybody get the mental image of Andy Breckman in a cat suit breaking into the WFMU vault by acrobatics to avoid the lasers

I thought my roof was leaking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Karl Ward:

Breckmanman replacing the tape with a supercut of every time Ken said "Andy" on the air
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Karl Ward:

And somehow, not playing the DAT causes a fracture in spacetime allowing Bob Dylan to escape, taking the DAT and the DAT player with him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Franco Twinkie:

One night I was at home watching a black and white monster movie when my sister walked in the front door and casually announced her and a friend were out someplace and Bob Dylan walked in. To this day, she says she doesn't remember.
