I didn't know that sitting in a room cover !!!

Jim the Poet:

I am sitting in a room different from the one you are in now. I am recording the sound of my speaking voice and I am going to play it back into the room again and again until the resonant frequencies of the room reinforce themselves so that any semblance of my speech, with perhaps the exception of rhythm, is destroyed. What you will hear, then, are the natural resonant frequencies of the room articulated by speech. I regard this activity not so much as a demonstration of a physical fact, but more as a way to smooth out any irregularities my speech might have.

Let’s smash rhythm and call it speech.

Jim the Poet:

"This is a reinterpretation of the important intersonic work "I Am Sitting in a Room" by the American composer Alvin Lucier from 1969. In the original work, Alvin Lucier is in a room and records his voice on a tape recorder. This tape recording is played back and recorded in the room at the same time, thus amplifying the frequencies that resonate in the room, beginning to reveal reverberations or imperfections that affect the recording of his initial phrase. He repeats this process 32 times breaking down his voice, destroying the pronunciation of the words with each repetition, bringing out the sound or noise that each word hides. The original phrase is completely lost like this, his voice evolving into a piece of noise.

This work explained in the 19th century. I have tried to bring it to the century, to the era of automatic text readers used in social networks in 2022. In my case the reader is not a person, the reader is Mike (UK) from the Naturalreaders website. His pronunciation is almost perfect in a way, he is phonetically a representation of a standard human. The recording of the voice was done digitally and in this case inside a computer. To soften his pronunciation, I superimposed each repetition with a delay of 120ms, so that with each repetition the phrase changes, until we get a noise track with the initial phrase, through the digital additions and overlaps that occur between his pronunciations."

yesterday I was going through my archive of late night improvised experimental recordings captured mainly during lockdowns (electronica/drone/minimal/noise/ambient) looking for them right sounds trying to finish more of "proper" tracks I am working on (whenever I have time). I found so many interesting stuff I forgot about. I might just create an bandcamp page and release them as an experimental obscure stuff/ep.

Jim the Poet:

"Four pieces composed on the Meng Qi Wing Pinger, a duophonic electronic instrument consisting of 2x 4-pole resonant low pass filters.
These filters can be cross “pinged” and modulated, both directly and by generated step signals.

These tracks are the result of trials and happy accidents during my first days with the Wing Pinger.
A deliberately minimal approach which gives birth to empirical generative soundscapes and random noises.

This album is a tribute to the work of Morton Subotnick and refers specifically to his third record composed entirely on Buchla's 100 Series modular synth “Touch” in 1969.

Special thanks to Meng Qi for creating such a unique and inspiring instrument."
