Dora Hall outta Chicago doing GOOD version! She was the ultimate self-promotion gal. Her hubby was rich, so why not. Put out about a million 45s that never sold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Candy-O'67:

Hey Kris, Matt, Clark, WR, TDK60

It's kinda amazing how much of a strict cover it is

Hi Candy!

WLSClark:

I sold some Dora 45s recently of mine and she even did Stones' Satisfaction on 45! Her husband was Solo Cups prez.
Avatar 10:20pm
WLSClark:

Kris, are you getting the wicked weather down there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Candy-O'67:

Clark, they are south of Austin. I doubt it😁
Avatar 10:24pm
Kris Holmes:

Weather is not wicked here, drizzly in the morning, sunny in the afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Matt from New Orleans:

This was one of my favorite Pigpen tunes with The Dead
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Took the Sun Ra album art coffee table book that Fantagraphics put out this year out of the library. It’s a beautiful book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
WR:

I'm looking forward to that, Matt. Haven't checked to see if the NYC library has it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Matt from New Orleans:

The Fantastics album that came out on BBE last year was solid
Avatar 10:54pm
WLSClark:

Candy and Kris, I cant keep you guys straight. I think Kris is in New Orleans always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Matt from New Orleans:

You’ll have to go to Lincoln Center to see it WR. Looks like they only ordered a reference copy for the Performing Arts library.
Avatar 10:55pm
Kris Holmes:

I'd like to be in New Orleans again sometime, that much is true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Just looked at the back to see how much it costs($75). I can see why they wouldn’t buy a circulating copy. Hopefully the copy here in NOLA will be respected.

"Fascinating story on Dora Hall that is just crazy"

Thank you for that link. Sometime earlier in the year somehow Dora Hall came to my attention and I read a couple of other web posts about her and the Solo Cup empire. That version of "Boots" sounded worthy of release to me.
Avatar 10:58pm
Kris Holmes:

It was very pro sounding
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Candy-O'67:

That's so kooky, Clark! He says San Antonio every week!🤣
Avatar 11:00pm
WLSClark:

WR, it did! MANY of the ones I had did NOT deserve release, IMO.
Avatar 11:01pm
WLSClark:

Candy, I must not hear it. Maybe not here early enough? Oh well, remember the Alamo will be my try to remember this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Candy-O'67:

I've told you before, too, when you asked me if I was going to see him when I went to New Orleans! Clark, your memory is fading!!😄
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Candy-O'67:

And he doesn't just say San Antonio at the beginning. He says it throughout the night!!🤣🤣🤣
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
Candy-O'67:

This version sounds like it's dragging of Apricot Brandy

Yes, Addie Pearl is great!

Kris, Matt, y'all know much about this record? Guitarist? Did Addie Pearl do any other records (just see this one listed on discogs)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Candy-O'67:

👍🏻😁
Avatar 11:23pm

Ohio record, just a local Columbus blues lady I think, no other records I know of, cut at Boddie, tore up in a female Jimmy Reed style. Love it.

I had a whole conversation with Clark before I went to New Orleans in October about how you didn't live in Nola and were in SA!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Matt from New Orleans:

That took me a while
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Candy-O'67:

Haha, Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
WR:

Kris, would you kindly play the flip side of the Addie Pearl 45? I know it goes against your usual protocol but, please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Candy-O'67:

I'd like to hear it, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Candy-O'67:

Butter beans! Haha! Grew up eating those
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
WR:

Don't remember A&M having any R&B/Funk artists.
Avatar 11:35pm
Kris Holmes:

Can do WR, it's pretty much of the same
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Candy-O'67:

Hot Biscuit Disc Company!! Well, get down!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
WR:

Thank you! She may just have that one strophe but it is strong.

I see Richards did a few singles for A&M. I worked at an A&M distributor for about a year in '71. Guess I knew/remember less than I thought about their catalogue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
doctorjazz:

Going to head off, thanks Kris, night all!
Avatar 11:42pm
Kris Holmes:

Like, what is she even singing about here?
Avatar 11:43pm
Kris Holmes:

night doctorjazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm

LOL, I just turned it up to listen more closely to the words to try to figure that out, Kris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
WR:

Interesting, thank you.
Avatar 11:46pm
Kris Holmes:

Is Culture even the right word, it's like she was saying "Sara Cultry"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
WR:

Or possibly "country" but I'm guessing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
Candy-O'67:

Now I gotta relisten to Addie's song on the archive. Y'all got me curious. I was doing dishes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Candy-O'67:

Really fab show tonight, Kris! Still here, but wanted to say that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
WR:

I think Addie was singing about how some women dress, but still guessing.

Yes, that was a nice falsetto on the Rico & The Ravens track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Candy-O'67:

Love that Rico and The Ravens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Happy Birthday Kris and thanks for the tunes

Happy birthday again, Kris!🎉🎁🎄🎊🎈❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
Candy-O'67:

January, right, Matt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
WR:

Another year older and deep in debt is what Tennessee Ernie Ford sang about, but the song writer left out a lot of other stuff that comes with age.

Mr. Ridgley!
Avatar 11:57pm
Kris Holmes:

Thanks everyone, night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
Candy-O'67:

Night, Kris, WR
