been getting mauel gottsching from everywhere lately, let's keep the trend coming (Gary on Bodega Pop and Evan on Flash Strap both did episodes dedicated to him on GTDS stream in the last week(s).

This isn’t one of those 55 minute Manuel Gottsching pieces, is it? It is nice though.
Avatar 10:07pm

@carmichael: phew! I was going to ask (I could see you on the comments board from afar, but until I could read it, I was going to request the tiki torches).

I've been looking at a lot of year-end music lists and the resuts are kinda dismal. I recently came across a late 1964 article in which the manager of Herman's Hermits made the following prescient observation: "There are three British beat groups with real talent and staying power: The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Herman's Hermits." Most of these British Invasion records are just schmutz, as disposable as Kleenex, but all are charged with an irresistible ebullience. I remember them all very well as they poured out of the car radio. I couldn't wait to become a teenager like my cousins, who were cool beyond measure with their teased and lacquered hairdos, cats-eye sunglasses, hiphugger pants and furtive cigarettes!

Hey everyone!
Avatar 10:21pm
northguineahills:

ok, the reference I was looking for was too tangential (even for me). so, of course I'll relay it here. A NYTs article (Mike Rubin) from 2009 referencing Juan Atkins in relation to a Ralf Hutter interview quoting Pierre Schaffer's, "In Search of a Concrete Music", which must have been the original French version b/c the english one wasn't published until 2012... and, now, I'm back in the early noughts in detroit.....
Avatar 10:25pm
northguineahills:

(i forgot the reference, sheesh!) Ralf Hutter namechecking Ash Ra Tempel breaking new ground by using synthesizers w/ practices of musique concrete....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm

Zipperdawg!
i had a coelamouse for a day. it was so cute i considered making a pet of it (but that's a bad idea)
i felt very bad setting it free 4 miles from everything it knows in 30ºf temperatures in ice and snow.
so i let it loose behind a supermarket to give it a better chance.
now it's just me and the spiders again.
Avatar 11:10pm

@coel: "coelamouse:, i'm just going to tiptoe backwards from your dr moreau-esque chimeras.... (how would a fish-mammal hyrbid work? oh, merpeople, merlions, and mermice!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Zipperhead7:

That's righteous, coelacanth∅. All critters are god's chillen. Too bad I don't believe in god.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
coelacanth∅:

haha ngh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
coelacanth∅:

Zipperhead, i use the term "god" with a fluid interpretation, and to my own convenience!
Avatar 11:16pm
northguineahills:

@sara: i'm looking forward to next winter (in brooklyn). i miss the cold and snow (ice, not so much)

at the shelter where I volunteer, we treat any night it gets below 40F/3C as if it were a hurricane. Anyone is welcome w/o registering, state of intoxication, or being searched (except weapons). and the cafeteria is turned into a sleeping floor w/ mats, blankets, etc). At least, the power shouldn't go out and I won't have to worry about flooding....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Zipperhead7:

Talk about chimeras -- at the LBJ library in Austin, there's a bronze sculpture of Johnson as a centaur, complete with cowboy hat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Zipperhead7:

There's also a good selection of hate-mail telegrams (all originating from Houston, curiously) and in the back, the very back, a dark room labelled "Vietnam"

Feels good in here
