That accident ended my career for a year."

So what I thought was a a cold a few weeks ago turned out to be Covid. After three years of carefully avoiding it, and still being just about the most cautious person I know, I managed to get it. It was a shock to me. I've had every possible vaccination and have still been masking. Nevertheless, it messed up our Christmas. I never even got a temperature and thankfully didn't get very sick at all. My wife got it a little worse. My sense is that this latest version is milder but far more contagious. I recently watched Over The Edge (1979), starring a young Matt Dillon. I discovered this movie after reading Dave Kramp's book about Cheap Trick. (there are four CT songs in the movie).
It is not a great movie. But it is essential for fans of teenage rebellion.

I saw "Over the Edge" at a rep theater in the Village, maybe a few years after it came out, & liked it (then again, I grew up on Longuyland and its indictment of suburbia felt apt to me). Based on stories from a real community in California, & it was Dillon's first film---they literally discovered him in a Westchester junior high school. Not as good as "River's Edge" but it was better than expected. I think it was pulled from theaters quickly (like "The Warriors" for supposedly encouraging teen violence).

As someone who read "...Dunces" around the time everyone was going crazy over it, I thought it was over-rated and not as funny as many found itm but I thought they could've made a better, more focused movie from it, but apparently it's "cursed"----actors who could've done a great job as the lead have died (Belushi, John Candy, maybe even Chris Farley, god help us) & I think it's had major problems. There was a stage production a few years ago (with Nick Offerman!) that I think went on without any drama....but not sure who could play the lead now (Phillip Seymour Hoffman would've been good too).
