Uncle Marty:

Star Trek TV series 1966-69 was cringe worthy but appreciated in that it addressed cultural and philosophical issues of the day , however under the radar & coded. Was a dud at the box office, but remarkable for the dedication of the cast, Roddenberry, real deal SF writers and community. A hit in syndication, its impact echoes thru 6 decades.
