Well, a friend of his was a helicopter pilot in the Pasadena police department. He told my dad " You know what the kids do the night before the parade? They drink, take drugs, and have sex on the sidewalk." I was fifteen years old and desperately wanted to do every one of those things. As luck would have it, I later lived right down the street from the parade route. I found the whole spectacle incomprehensible. I still do.
