With all the "body modification" humans do these days, ear tipping a kitty is hardly a concern. My little Drella was tipped because I was worried he might escape the house when he first came here. Now, he knows he's got it great & has no urge to leave

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am
StringOFperils:

Ahhh jeez, sigh. Look, "?", I wish you had a profile so I could reply to you there, but I'm tacking it on here (post-broadcast). I understand all of this implicitly. I've had at least one cat in my life for over 60 years. My objection was to the patently false statement that the procedure does not hurt. Period. My objection is to false statements appearing in social media, however small their import may appear to be. It would be preferable to say it does hurt, and to explain why inflicting that pain, in that case, is the least of all evils available. The life of a cat is precarious, even the life of a big cat that lives on a veldt or in a jungle. A stray city cat has a very short life of great suffering, so losing a piece of ear, however painful that is, is preferable when it's part of a monitored management program that saves that cat a cruel and lonely fate, and that prevents it from reproducing that fate in a series of truly unfortunate descendants. Ear-tipping definitely hurts. Go get circumcised or something and then tell me there's no discomfort when the numbness goes away, and try to make me believe it. Please. Catch-neuter-release is unfortunately necessary, thanks to irresponsible human beings everywhere. Saying that minor surgery is completely painless is like saying cats are responsible for all the birds dying, when it's plainly human beings behind the death of pretty much everything. Those claims are not thought out, and when people say them it makes the statements seem suspect, because they are plainly not right, and that does not serve their cause, which in the case of ear-tipping is, obviously, a good cause. Telling me to 'think about it for a minute' is condescending, especially when I have taken very good care of many animals for many decades, and am knowledgeable in more ways than you can know, being that you are a complete stranger to me. You should create a friends of WFMU profile. It's fun.
