Hey, folks! I hate when the greats die, but it is a great excuse to revisit their classics.

Good evening, all. Yes, we are feting Tom Verlaine—-and the downtown of then. Okay, we are a bit loose with specific dates and places, but you get it, subterraneans.

Hi John and Laurie and everyone listening!!
Loved the cover of Satisfaction. Busy cooking string beans, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and Turkey meatloaf.

Nice, more hard rockin than the studio single.

Love the Verlaine tracks you chose to tribute

Hey beautiful people! So good to see regulars and some new friends. Jill we need to start a regular mini-theme to each program: What in the World is Jill Kroessen a-cooking’?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Beneath the Underground:

Fab, this live in San Francisco cut is an epic sonic adventure. You can hear the Albert Ayler in Verlaine. And all of the band.

Beneath the Underground:

Eugenie we are excited to premiere some newly released MODEL CITIZENS sounds tonight, too.
Folks: how cool is that ??
Avatar 🌃 10:23pm

How are you cooking your brussel sprouts? I toss mine in olive oil, salt, pepper, red chili flakes and bake for about 20-25 minutes until the outside is crunchy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Beneath the Underground:

We love this: Leo and Jill trading recipes. Who woulda thunk it?
Jill Kroesen:

Leo! Thanks! I hadn’t decided about the Brussel sprouts! Your method sounds good. I’ll try it. Boiling the string beans, putting lemon and sesame oil on. Cauliflower in the meatloaf.
Avatar 🌃 10:34pm

↳ Jill Kroesen @10:29
ooooh IN the Meatloaf? sounds yummy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm

Beyond the recipes (btw I love Turkey Meatloaf— John), and the loss of Tom V, we are also recalling Langston Hughes today.

i love the strings in this piece - what a great blend of instruments
Avatar 🌃 10:37pm

I call mine "Leftover Loaf Special of the Week." The title tells the details. I might top it with 'maters, mash taters or cheese, depending...
Avatar 🌃 10:38pm

we need an Underlings Potluck
Avatar 🌃 10:38pm

Do you have the recipe for Langston Hughes' Famous Meatloaf???

Nico hated the strings! And especially the flutes. She thought of herself as a rock n roll singer. Sorry Nico, but "Chelsea Girls" is a classic album.

Don Bonebrake is a great rock and roll xylophone player. But alas, he's from North Hollywood, not the East Village.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
Beneath the Underground:

Lol xylophones and marimbas always caught the underground rock feel, while vibraphones are jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Beneath the Underground:

The Thompson Twins included marimba on a bunch of tracks.
Eugenie who played mallets in Model Citizens??
Avatar 🌃 11:10pm

I feel a Carmen Miranda Moment coming on all of a sudden
Jill Kroesen:

Thanks, Laurie and John! That was a surprise! I don’t even know where that cut of Freak of Nature came from.

I can only cook when your show is on!

Sisters, brothers, others….thank you for digging deep into the underground with Beneath the Underground. Grooving on the original Golden Palominos here.
Jill Kroesen:

Been doing some detective work. On that CD of Grand Street they put the wrong title on for that cut you played. It’s Freak of Nature not Fay Shism Blues. So funny to find that out! They put the correct title on the DVD. Not my favorite performance but I thought, we’ll it’s history…. No idea the relative cooking times for impossible burger and regular meat. Interesting question. Such a fascinating night of music!!!
