Favoriting Mid-Valley Mutations with Austin Rich: Playlist from February 28, 2023 Favoriting

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

There's a strange thing that I've experienced over many decades of taking mass transit. You develop a camaraderie with a fellow bus passenger after seeing them day after day. It's sort of a secondary or tertiary relationship level without telephones or emails. Then something happens and you don't see them anymore. Occasionally someone will reappear and I have to fight the urge to say, "You're still alive!"

Here in Northern NJ we can sometimes see 12-18" of snow or more in a blizzard. This has been the most bizarre winter with ZERO accumulation until today and it was only about 2-4". About 8" fell in NW NJ.

There used to be a Lovecraft oriented film festival in Portland. I caught one of those, even though I had never read a Lovecraft story before. There were a bunch of local amateur entries, which I can't remember. Also there was a Lovecraft themed band which played at Berbatti's Pan later that night. I think they were from Canada. Looks like a nice line up! I did enjoy the Chevy Chase movie as well as Abbot & Costello. Listening now after the fact. Late to the party as always!
