Here it is: Dave the Spazz was a legendary DJ on WFMU, known for his encyclopedic knowledge of rock and roll and his wild, irreverent style. Every week, he would take listeners on a journey through the history of rock, playing everything from classic hits to obscure gems that few had ever heard before.
But Dave was more than just a music aficionado - he was a showman, a true character who brought his own unique energy to every broadcast. He would crack jokes, tell stories, and interact with his audience in a way that made them feel like they were part of the show.
For years, listeners tuned in to WFMU just to hear Dave the Spazz, and he never disappointed. He remained a beloved figure in the world of radio, a true icon whose influence can still be felt to this day.

I did make it write a story about Dave having Bingo the Chimp and Tex Antoine on the show, but its a wall of text and I didn't want to anger the chat board gods
i just had this stupid idea to photo bomb my neighbors funky security cams with some silly dancing in the middle of the night, masks required of course.
Ok I'm back. Had to break away for a few to figure out what the f Francis Albert was doing dressed up in Fifth Dimension outfit. It wasn't as bad as it seems
Damn, while listening in tonight I just found out that Charley Hummel died. I do not know if anyone here knows the name, but I don't have anyone else to tell at this hour and you may find surprising just what might be in private hands, and locally.
Charley was a very generous man and extraordinary collector who assembled a truly irreplaceable archive of early sound equipment. Among dozens of 19th century machines, mutoscopes, a Soundie machine, etc etc he had the very first Columbia phonograph, the [Alexander Graham] Bell-Tainter prototype that is the ancestor of pretty much all recorded sound. (Edison's tinfoil machines had largely died out and until Bell made big improvements Edison had pretty much given up on the phonograph).
Charley would open his home up for tours and a pizza party every spring and fall during the Mechanical Music Extravaganza in Wayne, where we were all free to paw over his collection, play his cylinder jukebox, etc. The last time I was there we were looking at some wax cylinders which were likely to have the first recordings made in China. Ever.
He was a great guy with amazing knowledge of early sound gear. And he wasn't a rich man...he worked for the phone company or something! Just a savvy collector who ended up in the right place at the right time a few times.
It doesn't matter what he owned, but he was a good guy and I'm really sorry to see he has just passed. Thanks for reading this overly long post which only has tangential appeal to Spazzites

I was going to add that my mom (born in brooklyn but both her parents were from northern ireland) occasionally tells a tale of hearing her irish cousin’s wife describe a local fellow as a “mouldy auld c*nt” and then explaining what that meant to great alarm (and more than a little amusement)

I n Ireland, in the past, when ya would meet an old person they would say " Ah, yer from Brooooookkklllyyynn... I have nephew there named John Fitgerelade .. do ya know him ???""" So I had a girlfriend [90s] from Michagan named Elaine Lilker , did ya do know her?
well, if we hadn’t moved to california in 1978, I might have known her! (it reminds me of meeting a cousin in rural Derry in the 80s wearing a denim jacket with WASP & Saxon patches and her first words were, “you’re from america? do you know bon jovi?”)

my dad was a chemistry professor, so we moved around a bit. (we went to the wedding of a cousin who had just been released from Long Kesh in 1975 & he claimed that he was glad that folks there thought he was a pharmacist)
Thanks Spazz ... There was a thing on the death of Katherine Hepurn implying that her cancer was cused by the monkey bite in the Congo during the filming of that nun film ???
