Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from March 10, 2023 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I haven't actually purchased a Melco, keep looking at them (new and used). Obsessing, as is my wont. It doesn't have a DAC-I think it has more than one digital output, pretty sure you can connect it to the Technics via USB.

I can't figure out what the storage capacity is. It offers spanned RAID storage, which protects the data, but then there's only half of the available capacity.

Looks like there are two storage options: 3.84TB and 5TB, each of which(?) is configurable for spanned RAID, which cuts the capacity in half, but protects the data.

If I remember correctly, you can also connect an external hard drive to use as backup, so you don't lose the unit's storage.

It helps the dollar increase of LP (vs CD) that new vinyl is 2-3 times more expensive than the same CD.
  2:45pm
Dean:

The comments are unusually erratic for Ars Technica. Folks buy vinyl merely to support the artists, not to play the music. Some poo-poo the notion of audiophile quality vinyl. And so forth.

Ha Dean. I recall around '89 - '90 lots of music heads in my town announced with fanfare they were getting rid of all their LPs for the new perfect CDs (that would never skip like records). Etc. I didn't do that as I couldn't afford to do so, and wanted to keep my records. Plus, many older recordings were not yet reissued on CD. Today I still listen to LPs and CDs here.
Oh, tapes too!

On July 2, 2013, there were nine shows on GTDR:

The only problem with WFMU is THERE'S TOO GODDAM MUCH GOOD STUFF, IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP UP!!! (I used to have no problem spreading my SFL around, now it's impossible to contribute to all the shows I like, much less listen to them in real time).
  2:51pm
Dean:

One of those shows, Doug's, had two slots. On January 2, 2013, pre-HDT, there were seven shows, one being Doug's in two slots.https://web.archive.org/web/20121227004902/http://wfmu.org/table?period=7115
