Oh my …!
Now you’ve officially got my ears … Japan !
/ David Sylvian / those rubbery bass lines by Mick Karn !
Abbie , this is ancient music by now (my youth circa 1980-81). Love it that you’d be sharing this with us so many years later. You must sport a pair of open ears to reach back to the “New Romantics” vibes.

I used to do security at Tuxedo Moon shows a lot. Etched in my mind. The lighting and the whole scene. It was special. I remember a show in SF in must have been 81’ - the sax player cast a shadow on the back stage wall about 20 ft tall. Magic

Also so cool you worked with TuxedoMoon.

ERIK / VermonT:

Japan’s Tin Drum was definitely my fave / their peak.
But don’t sleep on their brief reunion group: “Rain Tree Crow” (decent album !).
I also have really enjoyed the “Nine Horses” album (featuring Sylvian’s great brother drummer Jansen & burnt Friedman & R. Sakamoto).
Plus: have you listened to the nifty Sylvian&Sakamoto: bamboo music/bamboo houses 12”.

Hello, Abbie and active ones!

More retro musings :
One of my fave Xmas novelty songs is Winston Tong reworking a wicked droll version of “12 Days of Xmas” From an excellent & playful & quirky Xmas themed album titled: “Ghosts of Xmas Past”. (A few different versions exist via excellent Belgian label “Les disques du Crépuscule”. TuxedoMoon and many other cool bands from that era contributed.

Pole … yay ! & Circa 2022.
I’ve fallen behind on my Pole listening.
Within that same Pole genre : reminded me of worthy “SLOPE” 2007 album. (Steve Jansen solo).

This is awesome. I know what I'll be pulling from come holiday time...
  2:06am
Elle Tor’s Husband:

My first impression of Winston Tong was as a short film maker. It was a film festival at ATA Gallery in SF. I don’t recall the name of his short but it was about the feet binding tradition. It was very emotionally effective. The image was very simple showing the binding process but the sound was heartbreaking. The mothers soothing voice in Japanese and the child slowly becoming more uncomfortable until she is crying. I will never forget that film

intending to ‘flog a dead horse’😉- yet another worthy TuxedoMoon offshoot were the more ambient experimental albums by Benjamin Lew & Steven Brown (“douzieme journee…” & “a propos d’un paysage”) from the consistently innovative Crammed Discs label.
