I have taken an unintentional hideous from much of the public world over the last 12 months or so including the WFMU boards. There is some new stuff I'm getting used to.

Nothing like a little progressive rock to encourage proper mastication

↳ Song: "Indoor Games" by "King Crimson"
i don't know this one. But there is that early '70s KC period that i never fully investigated.

This one is from Lizard, 1970. Pretty much all of their early albums are great

I think you mean "hiatus," but certainly "taking a hideous" is a lot more poetic. And may be more accurate, too.

↳ Song: "Magick Mother Invocation/Master Builder" by "Gong"
I once saw Acid Mothers Temple do a pretty ripping cover of this song. I was on acid and it was mother's day. True story.

The foundation of my prog learning was via my older brother's albums and FM radio in the early 70s. Heard tons of ELP/Wakeman/Yes/Jade Warrior then. I learned more about King Crimson and others in college in the early 80s working in the WFMU library.

Yeah, you're playing the ROCKIN stuff. Not all the flutes n hobbits n whatnot.

I do like some of the flutes and hobbits tho

Prog came to my attention in '72 or '73, when I spied an 8-track of Close to the Edge in a neighbor's VW bug, asked if I could borrow it.

↳ Dean @12:37
That's a pretty good way to start

Thereafter, KNAC had a regular weekly prog show to keep me apprised of new releases.

yeah WFMU does not really have a Morning Zoo. This show might be as close as we get.

I just remembered that there was a WFMU dj in the 80s who played a ton of prog. He was and still is an optometrist.

KNAC was LA's other NewWave station in the '80s, but couldnt compete with KROQ, so they went hair-metal. had no idea about their '70s format.

I think Peter Hammill would get a chuckle out of that.

My good friend Daved Hild hung around with Peter in London when they were both part of David Thomas' Mirror Man show.

Dean:

DJ at KNAC John Clark, '72-'76, had a six-hour program, iirc. Even managed to visit once.
