The #1 Hit Machine, must be fed. The best interviews in all of rock journalism, need support. The best show on the air, deserves to be accounted for. Please donate to this show, and then do it again. There ain’t no free. Michael works so hard to entertain all of us. Give a tiny bit back. Good morning, and congratulations Baby on another stellar year of radio. Good morning friends!

An intense stench like rotting cardboard from the paper mill at one end of town permeates the whole place. Christina Ginger:

I have seen a decent amount of our now deceased, but I regret not seeing: Les Paul, Chuck Berry, and…. James Brown and Little Richard (double bill!) at the NYState fair in the late 90’s. I would have had a ride and everything, but I guess I just felt unprepared for it as a young un’.

The Monkees track Dave is thinking of is "I Was There (And I'm Told I Had a Good Time)" by Micky & Adam S. (from Fountains of Wayne & many other bands/projects). Lots of famous writers contributed to that album also, inc. Rivers Cuomo, Ben Gibbard, etc.

This was on ... Ken's show? Last year? There was a theme song that Kubrick commissioned. It's terrible!

In the '80s/90s I had the same idea, to try to see as many early rock "legends" as I could. Saw Chuck Berry at the Ritz (now Webster Hall) & he was great (this was a little before the show in St. Loius that became the documentary), then saw him a few years later (at the other Ritz) & he was ehhh (& played "My Ding-a-Ling", unfortunately).....Lou Diamond Phillips opened the show. Also saw Little Richard (great, but did the same song like 3 times & got crazier as the night went on), Carl Perkins (wonderful) & Jerry Lee Lewis (in the '90s, he was kind of tired but not awful). Kicking myself that I never got to see Orbison or Bo Diddley though. Also caught James Brown at some free outdoor show downtown (NYC) in front of a inexplicably small crowd.

As someone said, it seems like it should have been on Music of Mind Control. But it was apparently seriously going to be the theme song! Oh, wow, is it bad.

Wow, didn't know Marianne covered this; just heard a new-ish collection of all her singles from the '60s but this wasn't on it. I think she wanted to be a folk singer (& actually released two debut albums at the same time, one of which was folk) but I think was coerced into recording a lot of fluff, covers, etc.

This is about how Dylan relates - or not - to Pop... & what are these things anyhow... Leiber & Stoller are not Bob & vice versa. Dylan started a Folkie - was noted as a 'Protest Singer' for a notable stretch - then was the Prophet of Personal Poetry in Rawk presaging Psychedelia.

The second time I went it was because a friend really wanted it. We agreed to split a sandwich so we could afford rent that month. We of course got high first. As they're making the sandwich, we're taking in the samples of oil, spreads, etc. that they put out. My friend is 6'6" and was just SHOVELING this stuff down. I'm trying to be a little circumspect bit still am high and there's free food. I move toward a bowl, and there's this dude at it with like head-to-toe goretex and a $3000 dollar bike. "What is it?" I ask. "Oh, a French raspberry preserve with --" and my friend materialized between him and the bowl, scoops up a huge dollop and yells, "HANDY! IT'S SOME KIND OF JELLY!"
