Ted Milton’s Blurt runs through the absurdist DNA of Snapped Ankles. An early iteration of the band played a version of ‘Planet You’ from different rooms of a dilapidated squat at a TOPOPHOBIA art performance night, and ‘The Fish Needs A Bike’ has found its way into the current blistering live set. They’ve recently struck up a friendship with Ted Milton, and the woodwose have been invited to DJ at Blurt’s upcoming show at London’s legendary 100 Club. Packaged in a die-cut sleeve and pressed on yellow vinyl, Blurtations also includes a postcard which riffs on the artwork of Blurt’s self-titled debut studio album. Also I was writing the first Turkish songs ever and that meant a lot to me. I didn’t plan it, it just happened and felt very natural. A lot of Turkish songs are about love, but heartbroken love, the pain and the suffering, I love them. That’s how it also comes to the title." Of the writing process she says "I never have a plan or intentionally strive when I do music. It’s more a fusion of what I was listening to the last two years, a lot of krautrock bands like Neu!, post-punk-wave stuff and I’m interested in anadolu-rock of the 60s and 70s like the beginnings of Barış Manço or Cem Karaca, too. Far from the extremities associated with your average punk rock cliché, these days Sleaford Mods’ life is even more normal than most. Williamson has been clean and sober for seven years, his wobbles now directed towards a lockdown habit of buying expensive secondhand casualwear that “got a bit obsessive” and is documented in new track ‘Pit to Pit’ (“Hide it in the wardrobe/ My partner thinks I’m being secretive and I am…”). Every day, he tries to get up at 4.45am to get to the gym for 6am; “If I’m in bed by 10pm,” he says, “I feel great.” Sleaford Mods began amongst far darker scenes, where art and substances were the only salves for a life that the vocalist describes as “not fucking destitute, but we didn’t have a lot”. When the duo talk about their background still permeating everything they do, it’s because those memories of struggling and self-medicating against a government that continues to do the most vulnerable people wrong are still visible, littered along the streets they walk down daily - albeit it from a healthier place that they’ve tenaciously fought tooth and nail to reach. Both now in their fifties, it’s been a long road. “I do think about the fact that we’ve made our way out of it in a way. It’s hard not to,” Fearn muses. “I literally was thinking yesterday that the fact that we make money from art is a privilege. But then I’ve worked really hard to make it happen, doing loads of shit part-time work to have time for music; I sacrificed a lot of living. People that get on a treadmill of working six days a week so they can eat out and drink out and consume, which is just that hamster wheel - it takes a lot of effort to think, ‘No, I’m gonna go completely against the grain to not even think like that’.” “We didn’t have anything; we had fuck all. UV Race	Act Like Them "Act Like Them" by "UV Race"	Made In China	Aarght Records	2019	UV Race hail from Melbourne, Australia and they call themselves "The smartest band in the world." Presented as a clan of friends who couldn’t give a toss about playing the Big Day Out and who lend their tunes to pornography, The UV Race are more concerned with creating art and having fun than subscribing to any preconceived notions of propriety and/or conventionality. Lead singer Marcus often disrobes while playing live, so says the internet. Think of a synonym for imbecility and The UV Race have probably been called it. The 8-track, “a synthy post-punk project that surprises with every track”, will be out on April 7 via Erste Theke Tontraeger. The project features a member of Marbled Eye. While you’ll hear plenty of those memorable guitar lines that made the Marbled Eye tracks so great, the songs here feel snappier, more concerned with generating a pop-inspired forward momentum than stretching things out and floating in mid-air. Alex and I made a point to meet up regularly in the studio to mess around and experiment, writing instrumental bits, ambient drones, and abstract pieces. According to Miss Tiny, it's the first taste of an upcoming longer project. "The song is based around feelings of inner-city claustrophobia. Whether that's at home, on your way to work, constantly socializing," the band said in a press release. Low & Spring Heel Jack	Way Behind	Bombscare EP	Tugboat Records	2000	(Review by Tim DiGravina) - "Bombscare is an extraordinarily lush, poignant collaboration between quiet rockers Low and experimental electronic duo Spring Heel Jack. Spring Heel Jack provides the musical collage as a background for the harmonies and solo vocals of Low's Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk. Spring Heel Jack's production creates an icy cathedral of sound that's unlike anything since Martin Hannett's work on Joy Division's "Atmosphere." The EP's four songs are easily the most interesting in Low's discography. "Bombscare" bleeds mood, space, and texture as sounds ring out and echo into the distance. "Hand So Small" works like a literate lullaby as musical flourishes appear from thin air, a piano haunts the outskirts of the song, and Sparhawk and Parker take turns singing about life "getting smaller." "So Easy (So Far)" is perhaps the most traditional Low song, but Spring Heel Jack manages to make the band sound like they're singing modern day Brothers Grimm tales. "Way Behind" is a stunning closer. It's a truly exhilarating song that sounds like it was recorded in heaven, as Parker and Sparhawk again take turns singing angelically that they've left someone "way behind" over a jazzy electronic stew full of subtle found-sounds. Bombscare hints at the musical turn Spring Heel Jack would take on Masses and presents Low at the absolute peak of their powers. It's too bad the collaborators didn't compile an entire album's worth of material, as these 16 minutes seem magically fleeting. James Ellis Ford	I Never Wanted Anything	I Never Wanted Anything Single	Warp Records	2023	The big-name producer (Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Florence and the Machine, Depeche Mode …) and Simian Mobile Disco member’s new intricate, clever, slow Bowie-esque electro-pop single is all about self-reliance. After working with so many others for many years, the novelty of this track is that it was entirely home-made on his own without any collaborators. “I Never Wanted Everything” is a stuttering yet moody avant-pop track that calls back to Eno’s ’70s solo work as well as the more melted and experimental side of new wave. The upcoming full length is billed as an homage to the likes of Brian Eno and Robert Wyatt and a tribute to his wife and son’s Palestinian heritage.	*	2:03:27 (Pop-up)

Far from the extremities associated with your average punk rock cliché, these days Sleaford Mods’ life is even more normal than most. Williamson has been clean and sober for seven years, his wobbles now directed towards a lockdown habit of buying expensive secondhand casualwear that “got a bit obsessive” and is documented in new track ‘Pit to Pit’ (“Hide it in the wardrobe/ My partner thinks I’m being secretive and I am…”). Every day, he tries to get up at 4.45am to get to the gym for 6am; “If I’m in bed by 10pm,” he says, “I feel great.” Sleaford Mods began amongst far darker scenes, where art and substances were the only salves for a life that the vocalist describes as “not fucking destitute, but we didn’t have a lot”. When the duo talk about their background still permeating everything they do, it’s because those memories of struggling and self-medicating against a government that continues to do the most vulnerable people wrong are still visible, littered along the streets they walk down daily - albeit it from a healthier place that they’ve tenaciously fought tooth and nail to reach. Both now in their fifties, it’s been a long road. “I do think about the fact that we’ve made our way out of it in a way. It’s hard not to,” Fearn muses. “I literally was thinking yesterday that the fact that we make money from art is a privilege. But then I’ve worked really hard to make it happen, doing loads of shit part-time work to have time for music; I sacrificed a lot of living. People that get on a treadmill of working six days a week so they can eat out and drink out and consume, which is just that hamster wheel - it takes a lot of effort to think, ‘No, I’m gonna go completely against the grain to not even think like that’.” “We didn’t have anything; we had fuck all. Lead singer Marcus often disrobes while playing live, so says the internet. Think of a synonym for imbecility and The UV Race have probably been called it. Low & Spring Heel Jack	Way Behind	Bombscare EP	Tugboat Records	2000	(Review by Tim DiGravina) - "Bombscare is an extraordinarily lush, poignant collaboration between quiet rockers Low and experimental electronic duo Spring Heel Jack. Spring Heel Jack provides the musical collage as a background for the harmonies and solo vocals of Low's Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk. Spring Heel Jack's production creates an icy cathedral of sound that's unlike anything since Martin Hannett's work on Joy Division's "Atmosphere." The EP's four songs are easily the most interesting in Low's discography. "Bombscare" bleeds mood, space, and texture as sounds ring out and echo into the distance. "Hand So Small" works like a literate lullaby as musical flourishes appear from thin air, a piano haunts the outskirts of the song, and Sparhawk and Parker take turns singing about life "getting smaller." "So Easy (So Far)" is perhaps the most traditional Low song, but Spring Heel Jack manages to make the band sound like they're singing modern day Brothers Grimm tales. "Way Behind" is a stunning closer. It's a truly exhilarating song that sounds like it was recorded in heaven, as Parker and Sparhawk again take turns singing angelically that they've left someone "way behind" over a jazzy electronic stew full of subtle found-sounds. Bombscare hints at the musical turn Spring Heel Jack would take on Masses and presents Low at the absolute peak of their powers. It's too bad the collaborators didn't compile an entire album's worth of material, as these 16 minutes seem magically fleeting. After working with so many others for many years, the novelty of this track is that it was entirely home-made on his own without any collaborators. “I Never Wanted Everything” is a stuttering yet moody avant-pop track that calls back to Eno’s ’70s solo work as well as the more melted and experimental side of new wave.
