I was listening to an interesting Grateful Dead show a couple of days ago. In the middle of Dark Star they jammed on Jesse Colin Young's "Darkness". It was really good. I wished they'd done so, longer. What wasn't apparent that this was either in homage, or in attempt to coax JCY out onto the stage. At the end of the set, he does join them to sing on a "Get Together" closer.

Speaking of bacon, a classic butcher closes tomorrow. Florence Meat Market. It's on Jones St. in Greenwich Village, where Freewheelin' Dylan walked by. Since 1936, they still use the old Thirties appliances. Me? I don't eat meat. Just a note on disappearin' NYC.

[afterword:] Bob et al: Sorry; I only realized later when I went to the Village that the article I mentioned about the Florence Prime Meat Market closing was a year old.
