Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from March 24, 2023 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I had toyed with the idea of buying a ticket to see Van Morrison at Forest Hills Stadium with Tom Jones. I ended up not going which wound up being a good choice because a few weeks later, I read a review of the show that said that Van lacked charisma, did very little of his hit songs and barely spoke to the audience. Tom Jones on the other hand was more humble and did a better job but was on for half the time.

Of course ...but is that really it all the time so much ? I never cared about the Charts when I was young either. & there's plenty of stuff played on FMU I never think much about how young they are I reckon !

Did Duran Duran give that Jewel a few listens before transplanting to Girls On Film?

Eilish, wittingly or not, is doing a bad imitation of Alan Vega on "Frankie Teardrop." Probably not wittingly.

I mention to my kids that a lot of the hit (overplayed) songs they enjoy today have a genuinely retro vibe to them. Crooners from before I was born, Sixties soul, that sorta thing. I'm actually impressed.

The only thing more tired than old people complaining about music that's popular with people half their age (or younger!) is old people complaining that there's no good new music anymore.

Uncle Michael, does the Rhino package of the Television concert indicate who does the extended guitar solo, Verlaine or Lloyd?

Is it wrong that every time I hear the guitar riff (higher or lower) in Little Johnny Jewel, the words "girls on film" play in my head?

Over and over and over again.

I think we know better than the latter here, anyhow.
What the former don't get I posit is how the distribution has changed. & they don't know what to do about it.

I heard a great line on the Welcome to Night Vale podcast: "Music was so much better when I was an emotionally available teenager then now that I'm a middle aged person who hates their job and represses their feelings".
