The Art Ensemble of Chicago got together with Cecil to record a tribute to Monk, which went well, except for the minor issue that Cecil refused to play any of the Monk tunes they had prepared, because he didn't feel he could add anything to them. I thought this was a lost opportunity. So they played some improvisations (I think) together, and the AEC played some Monk songs. Oh well.
