In the mid-eighties, a friend and I went to a Carl Stalling/Chuk Jones retrospective at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Driving down Wilshire Blvd, we were stuffing psilocybin mushrooms in our mouths like pop corn. By the time the show started we were in sinister cartoon land. Warner Brothers cartoons were high modernism at that point - lots of sharp angles and jarring color combinations, not to mention the music! At one point I looked over at my friend and she had slipped out of her seat onto the floor.
