The disease reference is misunderstood by you sir. The statement “It’s my disease speaking “ is also misunderstood. The 12 steps of AA make us responsible for our own actions.
  12:37am
Paul:

As an alchoholic, who’s in the program, it’s thought of more as a Dis Ease. As in, I am not at ease, I am in spiritual strife with myself and the world around me.

Also AA is all about taking accountability for your actions and making amends for them where possible, so I feel like who ever is using the disease model as a cop out isn’t actually working the program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hm. Well - physical addiction is a distinct condition clearly. So that depends on the definition of disease. The psychology of substance abuse in relation to a definition of disease - no simple matter to consider...

  12:40am
Paul:

I haven’t met anyone in general who isn’t deeply wounded, so to pidgeon hole alchoholics as the only ones is a bad generalization to make. At least they are trying to work on themselves. It’s stigmas like these that just further pull people apart and cast stones to make oneself feel better or superior.
Avatar 🎙 12:40am
Jherweg:

I mean we can get in a debate about “the disease model” I think it’s an interesting topic. I’ve had plenty of friends and family who have been deeply affected by drugs and alcohol so it’s something I’ve thought tons about , but I doubt I could articulate everything I’ve thought about it over the years here . I think the disease model is flawed . All thought it does share similarities with being genetically pre disposed to disease . I’m deeply wounded .

JHerweg the AA concept is spiritual Mental and Physical. The facts of disease are a medically proven fact with references to addiction and mental illness. Yes it can be genetic. My known family had several addicts and alcoholics. Does it prove anything? No yet it helps those of us in recovery understand why we must surrender in order to move forward today.
  12:48am
Paul:

Yeah neither would I I don’t think being an alchoholic or a drug addict is a get out of jail free card, I’m responding to the deeply wounded comment - the dis ease / disease thing is a grey area in general
  12:51am
Blissland:

I am seriously wounded beyond repair and I don't know anyone who has not been screwed by the world in some way.
  12:51am
Paul:

Exactly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's an interesting question - as I think we should divert our resources towards dealing with substance problems Medically, not Legally. The latter doesn't enable Harm Reduction ...& factually that was never the Law's intent. But - Behavior & impact on others are certainly a related concern as well. Ideally - we have Laws & Mores relating to those already...
  12:53am
Blissland:

I've known alcoholics and junkies and I don't judge any of them. It's not my place. But neither do I put up with manipulative shit when it happens.
  12:54am
misterdavid:

I’m sorry if I upset people, I meant, alcoholics become deeply wounded FROM the alcohol experience. I’m not better, or worse. I want to be compassionate, I grew up with them. It takes a lot of strength to drink everyday, it takes a robust person.
  12:55am
Blissland:

I don't think anyone here is presuming to pass moral judgment on anyone. At least, I didn't hear that.
Avatar 🎙 12:55am
Jherweg:

Well there is lots of empirical evidence to suggest that alcoholism and drug addiction share many similarities with “diseases” I don’t know of many diseases where your choices are so internally tied to weather you are afflicted or not from the get go. I get the reason for the disease model, but it is entirely theoretical.. there is no actual proof that addiction is a disease : I would coin it more under the catagory of a mental disorder. But that’s neither here nor there. Wether or not one is genetically pre disposed to addiction, absolutely anyone who does enough heroin will be hopelessly addicted .. regardless. So it’s much more nuanced than the 1940 big book definition would have one believe .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - to say there is no Disease & you're simply Accountable implies a Moralism to me...
  12:57am
Paul:

Simply put yeah, obvi no one should tolerate abuse from an alcoholic or drug addict… but to be honest there has not been a better rehabilitation program than the dumb big book and AA which is always being revised anyway. If we knew of a better way we would take it. Who wants to be in meetings every day reading something from 1938. At the same time the pros outweigh the cons. You are like with anything, supposed to take what works and leave the rest.

Yes the 12 steps lump all compulsive behavior into the disease model, which I think is problematic as well. Sex and food are things that are necessities , where as drugs and alcohol are not . I think psychological disorders no matter what they are are as complex and as individual as the people who have them . We hall have different motivations or traumas that make our brains misfire.

I like Rourke’s weirdo performance . I kind of love that Bukowski hated the movie. Fay Dunaway is great in it too.

Well he has a very different take on covid-19 compared to the official narrative. Is that what you meant by being treated as a "leper"?

Coel first off Greeting’s. Ok it’s a shame that anyone would shy away from recovery due to God concepts.Maybe I am lucky to have gotten God as Good orderly Direction .It’s a very big topic as groups know many many many of us reject religion and a god. We explain that whether we call it a higher power or a God the group is just that. Together we get sober. My higher power was always the AA group and a pot of coffee. Never was or is a religious type of God

just the typical prejudiced shit.

... but the official narrative is bullshit. trump's narrative is bullshit. biden's. obviously that piece of shit anthony fauci's.

so i don't know what RFK's concepts are, but they can't be any more rooted in corruption, greed and selfishness than the official stories.

No you're right, RFK wrote a book called The Real Anthony Fauci, and another since then as a sort of follow up. You might want to look him up on youtube, he is a very sincere and good person, who has been fighting corruption for many decades, especially on the environmental front.

Just since I am here, I will state that I have had long covid since January 2022, and for the first nine months, I really thought I was going to die. I was boosted and all that too. 30 million people with long covid. Just sweep em under the rug I guess.
  2:15am

Everyone I know who got a mrna shot got sick with covid. I only know 2 people who did not get a shot, myself and someone else, and neither of us got sick. But that is just the very tippy tip of the tip of a very sinister iceberg.

I know a couple anti vaxxers that got COVID. I also know that they used to say the vax didn't have any bit of the virus in it, but then they changed that narrative.

hi. - 'funny thing is he had digested the bible (which none of his siblings had done) and his only meat intake was fish - he said because that's what Jesus did. (i'd become a vegetarian before then, at 16, for moral reasons)
he believed in "God".
...and he said one meeting related to god in a way he appreciated, but it was too far away to go to regularly.
so he tried 3-4 more before he gave up. they were all referencing "their" god.

I'm sorry to hear that. Certainly not everyone who is un-vaccinated will remain healthy. One factor is the state of one's natural immunity to begin with. But I agree completely, the vaccines are not vaccines in any traditional sense. I don't trust them, especially considering the motives of the people who are gaining at everyone else's expense.
