Swale! Possibly not the horse, but a reasonable time to mourn all the horses we kill in our arrogance and casual cruelty.

Bruce Springsteen, State Trooper
Suicide, Rocket U.S.A. (a stated influence on "Nebraska"'s sound and subject matter)
Bruce Springsteen, Born in the U.S.A. (recorded same time as "Nebraska")
Was in 6th grade when Nebraska came out, checked out LP from public library. Been listening to it since.
Hearing the influence of Suicide was a revelation. And the spared down version of Born in the USA something very good.
Thanks for another great show, Joe!

Getting ready to go up on the roof to enjoy some of this crisp sunny (annoying autocorrect gave me SUNY, ha! Don’t think I’ve ever used that typing, though did attend one of its universities) morning before it gets too hot. Finishing up the coffee/chicory aeropress and the mango/banana/peanut butter smoothie to go along with it for breakfast.
Hope you’re all doing well, good people.
Handy Haversack:
OK, I'll delay until Wednesday on the advice of my disk jockey.

All this “convenience” and abundance we’ve come to think of, and demand as our birthright, has a heavy burden on others. Back-breaking work through the night, child labor, few safety regulations, little pension to speak of; while the owners use all those stolen profits to get us to look the either way in controlling the media to throw up consistent sensationalism and fear-mongering about anything other than what they’re engaged in.
But that’s the entire premise upon which capitalism continues: that you never have to see the destruction and the exploitation. It’s crucial to the corporations that you and I keep silent, and sing the praises of our beloved divinity, capitalism, for guaranteeing access to cheap food and goods. Damn the consequences to the people who literally make it happen.

In 1970, while working there, he joined the band Pollution as singer and percussionist. They were managed by actor Max Baer Jr. (best known as "Jethro" in The Beverly Hillbillies) and released two albums of soul-inspired psychedelic rock, Pollution I and Pollution II.[5][9] The band included singer Tata Vega and guitarist/singer James Quill Smith. He also worked at A&M Records on demo recordings with songwriter Paul Williams.[3]

' Sonny Curtis (born May 9, 1937) is an American singer and songwriter. Known for his collaborations with Buddy Holly, he was a member of the Crickets and continued with the band after Holly's death. Curtis's best known compositions include "Walk Right Back", a major hit in 1961 for the Everly Brothers; "I Fought the Law", notably covered by the Bobby Fuller Four and the Clash; and "Love is All Around," the theme song for The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
