The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

I pretty much loathe SNL, pretty much from day one, but this is terrific, due to Morris's real musical theatrical skills. I also can't let go of Aykroyd's sleazy art critic.

Daniel Johnston gave a large pile of CDRs of his music to KBOO when he visited once and a volunteer was slogging away at making CD cases for them (they were a mess. Nothing on the envelopes, etc.) and when the acting Programming Director quit he stuck them all in my mailbox. What to do with them? Just a bunch of CDRs with sharpie titles on them.

The problem with SNL was a combination of bad writing and acting (Belushi? Utterly without talent. Chase?!), and its commanding smarmy "Aren't we special?" attitude (hopelessly parodied by Carvey to the point of exhaustion). I am a huge fan of National Lampoon, but the material simply does not translate to screen.

I can't bear the medium. Television and film are mistakes in my world.

@Robm: Please read what I write. I am not a fan of Zappa, meaning I don't collect his work. But I love this early stuff, and I am a HUGE fan of Crusin' with Ruben & the Jets, among other occasional works of his. i don't remember the order of departures from the cast but by the early 80s it wasn't worth watching AT ALL. not even reaching the 5% good mark that i was to give Howard Stern a few decades later.
i know this because every weekend i'd try to convince the crew to not turn the tv on and every weekend they'd say "i know it's not funny any more, but..." and turn it on.

Table barf, my version. We took our son to Thanksgiving at the house of friends in Sacramento when he was...3? At table we passed around the goodies. Our son tried the mashed potatoes. Within five or ten minutes he hurled them all over the able. A teenager in attendance proclaimed, "Oooh, gross!"

Another artist I generally do not like: Laswell. Saw Fantômas (I think...) at Victo one year. Dreadful.
