Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

STEVE MACKAY & THE RADON ENSEMBLE | Live in the WFMU Studios | Saxophonist Steve Mackay has been publicly worshipped by James Chance, and with good reason: this is the guy who played on the Stooges' 1970 Funhouse record, and is again back on the road destroying concert audiences with Iggy and company. Steve's activities number greatly though: he's performed with the late great Snakefinger, backed the Violent Femmes, and as of the last few years has hooked up with various cosmic travellers of the illustrious Radon experimental label with fiery free-rock improvisations. Steve was ini town for a bill with Hawkwind's Nik Turner at Tonic on October 1st, and visited the WFMU studios for an afternoon of free-jazz psych. Dominic Trix will be reairing this on his Wednesday KFJC show soon as well. The group today is: Steve Mackay: Sax, Vox, Ed Wilcox: Drums, Percussion, Vinny Paternostro: Sax (Ed and Vinny courtesy Temple of Bon Matin), Kamil (Koonda Holaa): Guitar, electronic percussion, Jason Lefarge: Bass. Engineered by Cosmic Cowboy (thanks!) Thanks to Radon and our pal Scott Nydegger who no doubt is in some foreign land right now. More info at www.radonstudio.com (forthcoming Mackay/Smegma LP, Steve also has a session with the Grails forthcoming on Neurot Recordings). | 1:42:10 (Pop-up) | |||||||
