The program formerly known as Dinner at Andy's, The Fuzzy Glove Hour, Whores, and The Happiness Hut. Ken and Andy, also known as The Enema Boys, further lower WFMU's already abysmal standards on a weekly basis. Stunt radio which subjects the radio audience to concepts and topics which mature adults should not have to endure. Find the fatal flaw. (Visit homepage.)

'Capo' is 'kay-poh', the Italian 'head' of something, that should be the Mafia term.

'Kapo' is how the Jewish collaborator is spelled, it might be pronounced the German way, like 'kah-poh'.

"The word "kapo" could have come from the Italian word for "head" and "boss", capo. According to the Duden, it is derived from the French word for "Corporal" (caporal). Journalist Robert D. McFadden believes that the word "kapo" is derived from the German word Lagercapo, meaning camp captain".

U know, you must take a look at the new land… U know Fascism is symbolically represented by a bundle of sticks bound tightly around a larger stick or central pillar.

That central pillar, the thickest stick around which all the smaller sticks are bound- is Anti-intellectualism

capo: a leader of a group of Mafiosi.
kapo: a concentration camp inmate given special privileges and responsibility for other prisoners' activities.

Initially they were _never_ Jews, usually being 'Aryan' criminals, the Germans resorting to Jewish kapos when the camps had expanded so rapidly and become more predominantly Jewish. (Concentration camps were initially established for political enemies and career criminals, with an higher fraction of Jews than in the general population but not the majority. Only after first Kristallnacht and then, later, the 'Final Solution' were there mostly Jews in most camps. The same goes, but more so, for the death-camps, which were distinct to the original concentration camps, where the death-rates were high, comparable to the Gulags, but were not execution-machines where everyone entering could expect to die soon.)

The best definition, or rather description, of fascism I know is Umberto Eco's article title variously in English "Ur-Fascism" or "Eternal Fascism, or, Fourteen Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt".

Eco especially emphasises fascism's appeal to both nostalgia for a glorious past that never existed and a glorious future not yet born. (Marxism, at least, understands that the past was almost uniformly horrible, a nightmare from which only a few of us have even begun to awaken.) Fascism will both appeal to Traditionalism and out of the other side of its mouth condemn tradition as stultifying and needing to be swept-away.

A good article. He also described personal memories of the indoctrination at his school in Mussolini's Italy - they called the English were the "five meal a day" people to build resentment at the larger wealth (as a whole) in Great Britain compared to Italy, prepping students for the struggle.

The problem with the media overlords on the radio market isn't a desire for control necessarily - mostly it's just a craven desire for more money. It doesn't matter to them if anyone listens to a station - so long as they've optimized they cashflow from that station, squeezing as much from advertisers as possible with little overhead.

I'm not sure about that. Kapo were murdered when their entire barracks were murdered, but other than that I'd thought that they were allowed to live, and given more resources to live, as long as the people under them were compliant. Complicating the understanding: in some camps, toward the end, so much priority was given to killing Jews that even non-Jewish, non-Aryan, prisoners were exempt from murder unless they violated the rules.

Very definitely, the Sonderkommando, distinct to the kapo, who dragged bodies out of the gas chambers and cleaned the crematoria, were given extra rations but were themselves killed after a couple of months.

The Germans, Italians, and Japanese leaders all delighted in calling themselves the 'have-not nations' because they felt they'd been cheated out of having millions of dark people (or Chinese) to exploit.

All of them also described their aggression as defensive, the Germans of course going so far as to attack themselves and leaving murdered concentration camp inmates in Polish uniforms, dubbed 'tinned meat', at the scene.

I listened to a lost of classic AM DJs in the late 1960s, and this established in me a distaste for them and their continual self-puffery that, among other things, makes Bucci[?] completely intolerable to me. What little I've heard of him makes him sound like he's trying to reproduce something I loathed in its original, authentic, version.

I realise my taste is mine own; I'm not asking anyone else to change their taste* listening habits.

Thank-you, Paul, for the reference. Another Holocaust book that isn't referenced often enough is Tadeusz Borowicz' "This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen". Borowicz, an ethnic Pole, was a kapo in Auschwitz-Birkenau and (I think) Dachau.

He executed prisoners at the orders of the guards, which the Jewish kapo, though cruel, were generally not told to do.
