Hi-Ho, Don-O!

This particular show is going down as a milestone!
Oh, and RIP Al Jaffee (We lost him last month.)
Just so you know, one Mark Evanier could tell you stories about his experience working at the magazine.
Go visit his blog when you get the chance:
http://www.newsfromme.com

Also have an interesting side note about one of MAD's heralded artists with a personal connection (sort of) which I'll tell you about later.

Hey Don-O and the usual gang of idiots!

MAD was a huge part of my yoof. Great training for young minds - maintain an attitude of skepticism and irreverence towards what those so-called grown-ups are doing.

So, as I promised, a side note on a particular MAD artist you may all befamiliar with, namely Antonio Prohias, creator of Spy vs. Spy. I was first told about his story by my mother, who, like Prohias, immigrated from Cuba. Prohias was chief art editor for Cuba's official national newspaper. Just before Castro's takeover, my mother, who is an artist in her own right, contributed ideas for cartoons to his department via mail. But she never got to see her ideas used due to Castro's abrupt takeover, as Prohias had already secretly fled from the country.

Gad! I wish I still have that PULP magazine issue with Pink Lady on the cover. It contained the history of the group and a huge Jeff Altmen (?) about his involvement with THAT TV show. One of the Pink Ladies got homesick for her then-boyfriend.....and then it was their broken english.....and then Hugh Hefner's appetence..and so on...
