I like today's painting - mostly for the technique. A few paint strips, emphasizing the vertical up-to-down views, and they can represent two women with it, at least from a certain distance. As for the fried-egg halo, perhaps breakfast is on their minds...

So, here's a crazy story: When I was in college in Boston, there was a weird little junk/record shop in the Fens called "King of Records." One of my best finds there was a little wooden toy piano with a great jangly tone. One day I came home and my roommate was playing a recording of what sounded like my toy piano. When I asked if he recorded that, he told me it was actually the song "Sunshine and Clouds (And Everything Proud)" by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, which had just come out. But then he showed me the crazy part: examining the piano, he discovered the letters "CYHSY" scrawled on the bottom of!

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival ("JazzFest") is a huge thing in a park now, but the very first one premiered at Congo Square in NO - most appropriately. It's just a bricked public square now with some displays nearby Louis Armstrong Park, but I paid a visit when I was down there for JazzFest - a sacred site, this was the birthplace of genuinely "American" music - where slaves were allowed to play their music one day a week, and others heard and adapted that music...
