Oh, hi. I almost didn't see you sitting there and how could I have missed you? Before you take all my breath away, why don't you slip away with me? What are we going to do? Well... I don't wanna spoil it for you but I can see us singing some songs, maybe take in a film or a show? Let's see where the evening takes us. I see us slow dancing under the moonlight lost in each other's eyes. Do you like to laugh? Of course you do. Will you laugh for me? Maybe just a little lau-- Wait, is that your laugh? It is? No-- Please don't do that again. Just take my hand and remember this magic is only for tonight. Join me in our One Night Stand.

Queries: Well, does your delightful family have any opinions regarding classic & older films (1930s-1980s) having “inappropriate” content and whether they should be “cancelled” or re-experienced with a fresh eye and or “neo mindfulness” ?! Btw : What is neo mindfulness ?
Did I just coin that phrase ?
Anyway, classic TCM type film examples: Billy Wilder’s “The Major & the Minor” (ray milland & ginger rogers) / “Too Young To Kiss” (Van Johnson & June Allyson).
Both utterly charming (formerly?), now perhaps 🤔…
  11:28pm
Erik/VermonT:

I have even heard of John Hughes’ 1980s+ films causing kerfuffle with all the “kids” - especially when the older generation suggests how great these movies are.
Ooopps !
  11:32pm
Erik/VermonT:

Yea ..! Bad News Bears ! Perfect example.
Saw it & remember it well ! Delightful and naturally and authentically real (especially of & for its era).
  11:37pm
Erik/VermonT:

Recently attended a screening of Micheal Ritchie’s “SMILE” (1975?) - Bruce Dern & young Melanie Griffith many others, etc (about a high school beauty pageant)
Omg - so potentially offensive now ! Yet, it was entirely & cleverly an indictment of that scene ! Yet a few scenes are fairly “inappropriate” for modern sensibilities.
I loved it !
  11:48pm
Erik/VermonT:

Omg … now y’all Gotta get back to me After y’all watch “SMILE” !?! = it’s all about the vibes of beauty pageants!
- btw : thanks for sharing your life anecdotes & stories.

Erik/VermonT:

Re “Smile”: well, actually this is its premise (imo, cleverly relayed) Wiki says : “It focuses on various personalities involved in a beauty pageant in Santa Rosa, California, and satirizes small-town America and its peculiarities, hypocrisies and artifice within and around the pageant”. Saved me time texting the same gist. Our arthouse film gathering audience has an interesting discussion after the screening abt some of these issues ….

Yeesh, on hold then talking for over an hour. At least a lovely calypso about volcanos awaited me when I returned to listening
  12:22am
Erik/VermonT:

I think that’s why a new film like TÁR (by Todd Field) was so significant & of the moment. It addresses some
Of these issues in an unblinking clever way.
Todd Field’s previous film was also very controversial : “Little Children” 2006 (I don’t think it would be greenLit to be made at all nowadays!) even with great actors such as Kate Winslet & Patrick Wilson & a devastating performance by Jackie Earle Haley ! (Bad News Bears fame!). Oh btw (& omg!): I just realized Micheal Ritchie directed both Smile & Bad News Bears back to back !
- go figure. So funny / synchronicity.

Erik/VermonT:

Hahaha !
So curios - how those small cultural moments play out in a relationship …. My partner who is a graduate of classical training (Opera mostly) absolutely detested TÁR. Thank goodness we happened to sit apart at the festival screening (sold-out), because we didn’t influence each others experience with vibes.
I think it’s in the “best film of the year” category. Suffice to say, we had great difficulty finding any common ground upon discussing the film.
Note: studying TÁR a second viewing (in a theatre no less) was a revelation of deeper and mini-easter-egg clues & meanings. Fun post film clicks of discussions ensued !

I LOVE that. Some of my absolute favorite times IN LIFE was going to see films in High School & College and spending the rest of the night disecting them with other likeminded folk.
  12:49am
Erik/VermonT:

Another interesting post discussing film was “Force Majeure” 2014. Did you & Jennifer try that one ?
Lots of relationship divergences with that one !
Same Swedish Director that did “The Square” and the cynically Hilarious “triangle of sadness” 2022 !
