i used to always relate chest fever with traffic too.
i think it's because 3 dog night's "captured live at the forum" album, where i first heard the song, began sides 1 and 2 with heaven is in your mind and chest fever, respectively. (also my first exposure to that traffic song) so i learned they were both covers by bands i was unfamiliar with and got them confused.

that's my theory and i'm sticking to it.

yeah, it's almost like he (the producer) didn't understand the songs! like, making light of them with mouth harps, really silly bg vox and such.

Bonnie Dobson (born November 13, 1940, Toronto, Ontario, Canada)[1][2] is a Canadian folk music songwriter, singer, and guitarist, most known in the 1960s for composing the songs "I'm Your Woman" and "Morning Dew". The latter, augmented (with a controversial co-writing credit) by Tim Rose, became a melancholy folk rock standard, covered by Skating Polly, Fred Neil, Ralph McTell, Lulu, Nazareth, the Grateful Dead, the Jeff Beck Group, Robert Plant, the Pozo-Seco Singers, The 31st of February (including Gregg Allman, Duane Allman, and Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers Band), Long John Baldry, DEVO and Einstürzende Neubauten, among many others. via wikithingy

i couldn't remember his name. i just read about Leonard Cohen a few years ago -how he mostly let his producers do what they wanted, even if he hated it (as he did with this album).
i don't know anything else about John Simon.
