Hey JEremiah, Panther, fred, Destroit! Had a night of sauna and grilling at a friend's place, looks like I missed some good music. Sunrise this morning in Tampere was 3:46. It's also Finnish national Sauna Day and the oldest public sauna in the country, about 3 minutes walk from my house, is having a festival where my next-door neighbor and I are premiering our new project of Finnish and American folk music as banjo-jouhikko duets. I love performing for people standing around in towels outside and drinking beer.

I wonder how you could do a show about sunrise in Utsjoki, at the northern tip of Finland. Here are the sunrise and sunset data from today on the site of the weather bureau: "
Sunrise 16.5. 1:48. Sunset 28.7. 0:49. "

Jeremiah:

Am I reading this correctly? The sun is only down for an hour?
Avatar 🎷 4:39am
Don in Tampere:

No, the sun hasn't set since May 16, and doesn't set until August 28. In the winter, it's the other way around.

But even here in the south, it doesn't really get dark at this time of year

Yeah I was in Norway one summer and it was weird. I never knew what time it was.

But there's no place where the sunrise lasts months. I guess it's for the best, that would be taxing even for the most dedicated smooth jazz fan

Last night we decided to do sauna and hot tub first, then cook, and realised when it was time to start the grill that it was already after 11.
Avatar 4:49am
Jeremiah:

That IS a lot of smooth jazz

I wonder how long the sunrise lasts at the north or south pole. It's already a lot slower here. That's why the sun is under the horizin for several hours here around the solstice, but it never gets dark.

There was guy busking outside work yesterday, playing sax covers of pop/electro songs. His backing track had too much loud drums to count as smooth jazz though

How come this show always resorts to these fart smelling elevator tunes? Like im trying to get into a cozy half-sleep state but I always wake up to this hotel lobby mall music because it really annoys me!! Im seriously trying to think WHY this show gets this way EVERY TIME. What's the reasoning here? This is the worst kinda ... ugh Im so done. This is the last time I listen to your show, thanks.
