Apes of God! There was a short lived excellent band in Pittsburgh by that name the late 70s. I know it is the name of the Wyndham Lewis novel, so may be another band. Any more info?

Nice! In the early 2000s I saw some Nancarrow pieces performed at a keyboard festival. 2 phd music students programmed modern player pianos to play a few pieces of Nancarrow's that were never performed due to mechanical limitations during his lifetime. The sound was thunderous at tiimes!

Re: Nancarrow performance. I tried searching for information about it. I wasn't able to come up with anything. Maybe better searchers can find something. It was at the Gilmore Keyboard Festival in Kalamazoo, MI in the spring of 2004.

in high school a friend had a piano in his bedroom (which was most of the basement where he lived)
i got there one day and he'd stuck thumb tacks into all the hammers. he never told me that he didn't think of it himself first!
in any case it started me on a journey of modifying/ruining musical instruments.
